I just noticed them, too. On the Living Together thread, the ads are Save Your Marriage Now and How to Save Your Marriage.

Maybe this is similar to what will be in the Gmail. (I'm saying that because many of the ads are Google-related.)

I know google actually looks at the page (search results) and chooses from an ad pool to appeal to people that might be reading that page. They might be doing something similar here...

Well, at least they haven't been here for months and I just now noticed.
Still.
They're a little annoying, don't you think? I guess we'll probably get used to them. And if they help pay for the site to be here, well, I'm all for that, of course.

Hmm.. I don't see anything. But then, I don't see many banner ads. But from what you are saying, these are text ads. I know that I *do* see google text ads.

I'm trying to decide if I am happy or sad that I cannot see the ads. Probably happy, even though it means that I am out of the loop.

I feel a little like my privacy is being invaded, if the ads respond to thread topics. It makes me feel snarky and rebellious. I'd rather pay a subscription to Hatrack than have ad people spying on me and the things I post. And then seeing what the ad people put up bothers me, too. How dare they presume what I like?
I think these little ads are bringing out my fear-of-being-controlled and labelled issues.

there's unfortunately what appears to be a very small pool of ads, most of them seem to be for books or writing classes, so far...

If you *really* don't want to see those ads, start using one of the mozilla browser (firefox is what I use). You can customize it to not display banner ads, and it works on these ads.

I think the posts were there before. I know something was down there, and it had the Hatrack symbol at the top.

Wait a sec. It's not the last post. It's the first post on the thread. I guess I've never scrolled down there before.

I think the ads are fine. The text is not too intrusive, and heaven knows running this site must be expensive. If this means Hatrack stays without us sacrificing a virgin every once in a while, then fine.
