I've stated here before that I'm against the death penalty in any case that's not cut and dried or based on hearsay. There needs to be incontrovertible evidence. And it wouldn't bother me at all if the death penalty was abolished completely, for then there would never be a risk of executing an innocent person.
Then I read stuff like this and I want the guy dead. Not for vengeance, I don't know the girl, but because I want him out of the gene pool. Like a rabid dog, I feel for what he was and I regret the necessity, but he needs to be put down.

Uh, Chris, as I understand it, he already has children, so his genes are already in the pool unless we want to have them sterilized. It's also unlikely he'll spread his genes around in an all-male maximum security prison with a sentence of life without parole.
And, like you, I'm against the death penalty. I live in Illinois, where it's hard to argue our state has dealt with capital cases with care.
Nevertheless, there are executions that disturb my sleep and those that don't. If the evidence is irrefutable, this would be one of those times I would sleep soundly on the day of the execution.

Did you read the whole article, Tresopax? I hope all the folks on that first jury remember that they set this guy free.

Yeah, because darn those jurors for executing the law as they were explained, to the best of their abilities. Especially decrying them without knowing the facts, as they knew them. After all, most juries aren't allowed to hear news coverage, or are weeded out but the jury selection process.
