Congratulations to all the Cards, and in particular Geoff, Heather and Zoe. (I have a little cousin called Zoe. It's an indisputable fact that little babies called Zoe grow up to be charming and absolutely gorgeous little girls. )

I'm not so impressed, actually. This baby is living in the Seattle area. I'll see the kid maybe twice before she goes to college. What's fun about that? Sure, it's a nice name. But since Geoff and Heather wouldn't tell anybody in advance about the names they were thinking about, lest anyone else think they were entitled to a vote, I gave the baby the working title "Rosalita," and now I hear everybody talking about Zoe, and I wonder, What happened to my little grandbaby Rosalita? So I'm ambivalent. Happy for Geoffrey and Heather, who will be splendid parents; but looking around and wondering, Where's the grandbaby people kept telling me I'd enjoy so much? <grin>

My father-in-law had 6 kids. All he asked was that one of them name a daughter Monica Veronica. Alas, he got a Monica but no Monica Veronica. I wormed my way out of disappointing him by only having boys.

Mr. Card, you obviously need to do more west-coast book tours now. Oooh! Or you could set a story in Seattle and go spend lots of time there for research. Get writing!

Congratulations to the proud parents and even prouder grandparents! I think Zoe is a very pretty name. Her middle name is even prettier. Can't wait for pics. December is a good month to have a birthday except the whole present combo thing people always seem to do. I have fond memories of my parents working very hard to make my birthday separate from the holidays. I am sure Geoff and Heather will do the same. Ha... come to think of it Washington is a good state to be born in, as well. Welcome, Zoe.

Okay, so congrats and all . . . But how is her middle name pronounced? Lie-anna? Lee-ahnah? ** I was very impressed with Seattle when I was there for Writers of the Future. The people seemed very pleasant, the weather was nice, and the landscape beautiful. It was a welcome escape from 95 degree, 95% humidity of the east coast in August.
