I've read four of the stories, and I would strongly recommend it.

Edit:
I'd also like to take a second and congratulate Mr. Card for releasing such an excellent magazine. I'm sure it must have been a very time consuming and difficult process, but the end result is very good.

Woth it for the audio reading which is excellent (dig the story too of course). also read respite which I quite enjoyed. Definitely already more than the 2.50 I paid. I've bought chocolate bars that cost more (damn Whole Paycheck...err Foods).

Plus you get OSC's first novel which is out of print, permenently!

Anyone download that clock program? I was wondering what it did, but it isn't very well documented.

Not much documentation for the clock, because all it is is a clock for your desktop - but a really cool looking one designed by an extraordinarily creative artist. And if you don't have Windows XP, it does nothing at all.

Glad you're enjoying the magazine. I know I loved all the stories when I read them. And I think we've found good columnists and good artists as well. Not to mention the comics that are coming (soon). And the serialized novel for next issue (not by me!). So I hope that word-of-mouth spreads to many people who aren't already on HAtrack <grin>.

The clock is cute.

The columns are great.

And Respite (the only story I've read so far) is AWESOME.

Eviction Notice, which I saw a long time ago in an earlier version, which was very good, is now incredible.

Yeah, I really loved Eviction Notice as well. I posted that on the other forum. Very very dark. I cried.

Of course, I can see problems with "Respite" now, things I would change. Not plot points, just making a few bits smoother. But, every author feels that way about their stuff, I suppose. It's just a sign that I've progressed from the place I was at when I wrote it. Which must be good.

I really liked most of the stories, now that I've read them all.

THIS IS SO EXCITING!!! I'm not going to sleep much tonight, I think.

Well, I'm waiting for OSC to get back to me on another submission at the moment. I also have a few stories either submitted or almost ready to go out the door, but haven't heard back from anything yet. I made quarter-finalist in last quarter's Writers of the Future contest, but it seems like a ton of people I know did as well, so I don't think that is a huge accomplishment or anything.

I've been nervous about attempting anything longer than a short, but OSC seems to think I'm ready to begin writing a novel, so I'm going to attempt that in addition to more stories over the coming months.

If I do get anything else published, I'll post the information on the forums.

I have every intention of being around for years to come, though, and hopefully you'll find more of my stuff popping up in places for a long time yet.

I rarely post on this forum, but after signing up for Intergalactic Medicine Show, I just had to comment. The stories are absolutely fantastic. I particularily enjoyed Respite and Loose in the Wires, these are wonderful stories and I hope OSC continues to find excellent writers like Rachel Ann Dryden and John Brown. Mazer in Prison was nothing short of spectacular. I have always wanted to read more about that particular character, and now my wish has come true. Hats off to OSC.

The website for IGMS is beautiful. I love the layout and appearance. It loads quickly and looks gorgeous.

The content of the first issue is extremely good. I've loved everything I've read so far.

The clock is lovely to look at, but on my machine it chews up nearly 100% of the CPU while it is running (which makes it unlikely that I will run it very often). Other than that tiny criticism I have nothing but praise for a great first issue.

Be sure to tell all your friends about this terrific new online magazine and encourage them to subscribe. I know I will.

Ooooh, syipress, we just love to hear that. I'm glad Loose worked for you.

I too have enjoyed them all a great deal for different reasons. I cancelled my last mag subscription the year after Kristine Kathryn Ruysh stopped editing the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. I just couldn't find a pub that had enough stories I liked to make it worth my while. This time I found a whole batch of stories that spoke to me. I can't wait for the next issue.

I think linking must be encouraged, since on the "Links" page there is an assortment of different sized graphics to use for such a purpose. I could be wrong though -- wouldn't be the first time.

Fourth or fifth, maybe.

I just finished reading the last stroy I had yet to read Trill and the Beanstalk. Edmund R. Schubert needs to turn that story into a novel, it is one seriously good read. I got to the end and was like, "WHAT!?! That's it! Give me more!". I reccomend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet. Mighty good stuff.

I put a link on Myspace for it. I'll leave it up unless told otherwise. I can't see how it could hurt and it's free advertising! [Smile]

You can ALWAYS link to another site, with or without permission. But certainly, you not only have my permission, you have my encouragement - nay, my gratitude! The only way the magazine can pay for itself is if people hear about it favorably, visit it, buy it ... and tell their friends.

It's not like we can afford to buy tv ad time to promote it <grin>.

Thanks, Syipress. You comments are most appreciated.

I had actually toyed with the idea expanding it to a novel, but first I need to sell the novel I've already written and finish writing the next one I've already begun. On the other hand, expanding "Ender's Game" from a short story to a novel seems to have worked out fairly well for OSC, so maybe I should re-prioritize my writing schedule...

For anyone interested, I have another story up right now at a website called From The Asylum ( From The Asylum (click "Monthly Fiction", then "October 2005")), that was actually inspired by OSC's 'Pastwatch: The Redemption of Christopher Columbus.' It's a 500-word tongue-in-cheek flash which only takes 5 minutes to read, so how wrong can you go? And if the ending doesn't make you groan, I'll be disappointed.

Wow, thank you for the kind words, TL. Your comments took me a bit by surprise. Are you sure you're not a friend of mine, trying to talk me up? [Big Grin]

It's always great to hear the comments, both good and bad, in regards to my work and I thank you for the support, TL!

Having been such a huge fan of OSC, working on the launch of the IGMS was a real treat. The writers did a fantastic job of creating these worlds and characters, and it looks like it's been a success with the audience.

Mr. Card has been very supportive throughout the entire process, and I look forward to continue working with him on this, and his future endeavors. I may have another drawing in the next issue, so please keep an eye out.

But for now, if you would like to see some more of my work, you can visit my website at:

www.DrawJinDraw.com

You'll want to click "Gallery" on the navigation bar, and not the direct links to a specific gallery you see on the home page. I am missing the links to all the image folders and the site is under some minor construcion. But I am always updating with new work, so please keep checking back!

My most recent news is that McFarlane Toys' will be releasing photography of their Dragons: Series 3 this Friday, October 21. I worked on the designs for all the Dragons and will be updating my gallery with the original concept art on Friday, as well. My friends in the sculpting department did an amazing job, so bookmark my site and check back in a few days for the work.

I am also working with McFarlane Toys on other lines, so as soon as I am able to release those drawings, they will be in my gallery.

Thanks again for the support, everyone. Take care.

So, Edmund, you give away your 500-word short instead of offering it for sale to ME? Don't you understand that EVERYTHING has potential value and short-shorts are extremely valuable to magazines?

We're going to be putting links from the artists' artwork pages in the magazine (when you're in the purchased issue, and you're reading a story, if you click on the art you get a much larger version of the art) to their websites and contact information, so that each issue will be a gallery for each artist.

We meant to do that all along, but the highest priority was having everything actually RUN, since it's all CGI instead of HTML. But in just a few days ...

And the new review columns are starting to come in ...

The audio portion was enough to get at least one of my friends to sign up. I think having something that can easily be taken away from the PC is a draw for many. Not to mention that the reader did an excellent job...

It's good to see the submissions form is up, that will sure give OSC a lot of breakfast reading material!

is there absolutely any way to get this magazine without the involvement of Paypal? My brother handles these things and he seems to have a grudge against PayPal for some reason: something about them being ripoffs. Is it not free, at least in this case, since there are no postage and handling costs for Intergalactic Medicine Show?

I just got yelled at by Orson Scott Card for not selling him a story. Not the worst thing to ever happen to me.

I sold "About Time" months before I knew you had a magazine in the works, but I did get paid for it. I think I even made enough money on that deal to buy Happy Meals for the whole family. And at year's end From The Asylum also publishes an anthology of everything that appeared on their web-site, so I'll have a book to show for my troubles, too.

And if you think I'm not digging like mad through my notebook of story ideas even as I type, you've got another thing coming... literally.

Rusta-burger: In my experience, I have never had any problems with Paypal. Intergalactic Medicine Show is all online, so there is nothing to be shipped. The small payment gives to access to the numerous stories and the audio book, a pretty good deal IMHO! You really don't have to worry about PayPal, it is just an easy way to transfer money online and means that IGMs doesn't have to take credit card orders from thousands...

okay what are your relevant bank details? mines a statewest account from australia so you'll know it's from me. It says Payee BSB, Payee Account Number, Payee Account Title an Lodgement Reference. Or you can email me those details at mighty_mitch8@hotmail.com. I think it might actually have to be $8.66 so I stay above the $10 mark but that still transfers to over $5 US. Thanks for this. Um, no. That's not what I meant.

I meant that you can either email me your registration info that's over at IGMS, or you can tell me what username you want and I'll send you the password after I pay for it.

Either way, send me the information in an EMAIL and I'll purchase the subscription for you.

It's $2.50, you pay more than that for a gallon of gas.

Twice as much for a meal at a greasy fast food place.

You spend that for ice cream at Baskin&Robins...

Besides, there are a lot of other great stories by writers we should be supporting!
