Wow. I just figured out that is a guy shrugging. I always thought it was somebody lifting weights and so was confused when somebody used it...Makes sense now. Sorry for that unnecessary bit of randomness.

i used to pronounce it heg-a-mon, but then alot of my friends pronounced it hedge-mon, and then OSC pronouced it hedge-mon at the Boston signing, so i went with it. hehe

I could always pronounce "hegemon" without a hitch but always had problems with "hegemony" because my debate teachers insisted it was "heh-GEM-uh-nee" when my mind kept saying, "hedguh-MOAN-ee". Drives me crazy. Webster's lists both pronunciations as correct, so I fear I'll never reach a conclusion personally as to its accurate pronunciation.

I don't try to pronounce it in Greek. By analogy with the word hegemony, which is pronounced heh-JEM-uh-nee, I pronounced the new ENGLISH word hegemon HEJ-uh-mon. How the Greeks did it or do it is entirely up to them <grin>.
