On the south side of Tapolith, down by the docks, a market sprawled in the lee of the sea wall. Merchants changed as often as the tides there, but one shop, no more than a tent, had been hugging the wall as long as any could remember. Outside, it was weathered, faded by sun and seawater, but inside it opened into a lamplit space with delicious smells and shelves full of magic. The proprietor, a man with copper skin and curly hair, reclined on cushions in a corner. A lazy man, perhaps, but his robes were a guildsman's. The tent flap moved, but he didn't. The thud of a heavy pack dropped on a table finally stirred him from his rest. He opened one eye to see a young woman with sandy hair tied back by a leather band. He marked her freckled
I'd love to get readers for the chapter. 3800 words. This is Fiona's story, the girl who made an appearance in the Character Interviews section a few months ago. We (writing partner and I) are up to chapter 10, and I'm hoping to hook up with some other people who are working on novels, and trade critiques on one chapter at a time.

This is the first novel hook that really grabbed me. I would like to read more. I was really taken by the wonder instilled in this quaint little place where magic can be found.
Feel free to send what you have. I should be able to turn a chapter in a few days.

MrsBrown - I've been lurking in the novel group but was hesitating to dive in because because I've been stuck on chapter 12 for quite a while and couldn't have kept up the pace. Maybe it's time.
