Welcome to this week's Novel Support Group (NSG). Anyone can join. If you're new, tell us a bit about who you are and what project you are working on. Feel free to update the NSG Work in Progress thread with your current projects. Although we can report on any number of things, here is a list of suggestions (suggestions welcomed).

Here is a list of things that you can do each week as we work on our novels (suggestions welcomed).

=-=-=-=-=

First, welcome to the newcomers from last week. It's always good to see new writers post to our group.

Last Week's Goals

Did no writing. I pulled myself into an old / new project that will take up much of my time for a few weeks. Perhaps the funk I've been experiencing is caused by a need to simply take a break. Now, if I want to treat writing as a career, I shouldn't take a break but having "finished" a first draft is still an accomplishment.

My goals for next week:

[list]

  • Rest a bit/list]

Because of this project, I will likely not write much of anything (not that I was before.) So, I will rest from the writing for a while and let the ideas churn.

What did I learn this week?

Sometimes you just need to take a break.

    Last Week's Goals:

DREAMER'S ROSE: Nothing for this month.
    Such an easy goal.

MAGE STORM: Continue sending out queries.
    No.

SEVEN STARS: Continue with the second pass. Ten more chapters, or through chapter sixteen.
Hah! Blew past it. I finished the second draft (unless anything too good to pass up occurs to me in the next couple of weeks.)

BLOOD WILL TELL: Let it simmer a bit longer.
    Another easy goal.

    OTHER:
Update my blog twice a week.
    Yep.

    Next Week's Goals:

    On the Shelf:
    THE SHAMAN'S CURSE
    THE IGNORED PROPHECY

Starting to think about plunging into a rewrite of THE SHAMAN'S CURSE.

    DREAMER'S ROSE:
    Nothing for this month.

    MAGE STORM:
No queries this week. After I've digest the comments that came with the rejection of the full manuscript, I'll probably do some revisions before I start sending out queries again.

    SEVEN STARS:
Let it rest. First readers start on it next month.

    BLOOD WILL TELL:
Take another look at the revisions. Start trying to decide what to do with it, now. (Query or e-publish)

    OTHER:
Update my blog twice a week.
Revise and submit my WotF entry. Talk about taking it down to the wire!

    This Week's Goals are:
~ Set a block of time to write each day (and not at work, like now 8-O
~ Seriously?? Just settle on a beginning for BD&L and get on with it!!
~ Look over notes for TOB, decide why things are happening and move on.

Haven't settled on a block of time yet but I did decide on which beginning to use for BD&L and have the first two chapters tucked away. Hope to get at least #3 done today.

Have to find my notes for TOB and start cooking on that.

Did I learn anything last week? Yes. I'm addicted to food. I can't help it.

    Last Week:

THE NULL PROPHET: Continue revisions & exchange.
Yes. Almost done with the exchange, and finished the rewrite on my new opening chapter.

    MINDWALKER: Make some progress
Yes (finally). Only a couple hundred words, though.

    Next Week:

THE NULL PROPHET: Revise 2 more scenes, cut word count (Currently at 126,934, aiming for 120k).

    MINDWALKER: Finish a scene.

Did nothing this week but catch up on other people's work and work on my business plan.

    So goal?

Wake up at 6am every morning no matter what, and write. New Arbor Day until I reach the end, then Evangeline...oh yeah and write down that one little tidbit for the last scene of the 3rd book =)

I'm in again this week with my old novel.
It's an interesting one to write because it's a chapter book for kids. The total word count will only be around 20k.

I keep thinking I need more more more, but after having read a few of these books I know that with 100 pages there's only so much you can do. Intro characters, get that problem in there, throw in a few fun, sassy remarks, put the kids in danger, and get them out.

I'm sure my voice is awful because it's my first attempt at this age group. (The WCE guys are probably scratching their heads) However, I think I've got all the elements in place for a proper novel.

The only thing is, and I feel this my own self, I'm sure I'm playing the right notes, but I don't feel like I'm making music. I guess that's what feedback is for... Still. I'm wondering if it's there.

Axe, I just hoping you're not writing Argyle or Jackson the Early Years. That may not be the right notes.

But everyone should branch out once in awhile. I've got a story 4 from now that will be light hearted...I think. Light hearted like Spider-Man 2.
