Welcome to this week's Novel Support Group (NSG). Anyone can join. If you're new, tell us a bit about who you are and what project you are working on. Feel free to update the NSG Work in Progress thread with your current projects. Although we can report on any number of things, here is a list of suggestions (suggestions welcomed).

  • What were your goals last week and did you accomplish them?
  • Describe what you worked on.
  • Set goals for next week.
  • Did you learn something during this week?

Here is a list of things that you can do each week as we work on our novels (suggestions welcomed).

  • Writing on a novel
  • Characterization
  • World Building
  • Relevant research

Last Week's Goals

I did not do as well last week as I would have liked. Things got busy at work and I *may* have completed 2,000 words. It's better than nothing.

My goals for next week:

  • Improve scene details
  • Write detailed scenes

I will just continue on and write the scenes that I have so far. If I come up with additional scenes that I need I will outline them briefly and then move on. So far this is working for me.

What did I learn this week?

I have learned (re-learned I suppose) that building up the discipline to write is difficult. Even if I can get an hour each day that will be something. Right now I'm trying to decide whether that hour will be spent in the morning (early) or at night (late). Some days I can write at night, but days like this week when work is stressful I can't get into the mindset.

Last Week's Goals:

On the Shelf:
THE SHAMAN'S CURSE
THE IGNORED PROPHECY
BLOOD WILL TELL

DREAMER'S ROSE: Finish up this chapter finally.
Yes, and more. Woo hoo! Making progress again.

MAGE STORM: Send five more queries out.
Four.

SEVEN STARS: Continue working out the idea until it's ready.
I've got a rough version of the main story line, now.

OTHER: Update my blog twice a week.
Yep.

Next Week's Goals:

On the Shelf:
THE SHAMAN'S CURSE
THE IGNORED PROPHECY
BLOOD WILL TELL
BLOOD WILL TELL will get a few new readers next month. Then we'll see about that one.
The other two are going to stay on the shelf until I can get them far enough out of my head that I can start a rewrite. I'm trying not even to think about them.

DREAMER'S ROSE:
Keep working on the revisions. Most of the part that needed to be rewritten is done, now.

MAGE STORM:
Send three more queries out.

SEVEN STARS:
I've been reworking the little bit I had written so I can start moving on with this. See if this version feels right. So far, I really like the idea.

OTHER:
Update my blog twice a week.

Not much writing I'm afraid. Of course one reason was for a good reason. I went to the coast with my wife for the weekend.

Thought I would get half an hour on my New Mage novel but only got about ten minutes. I think that was only the second time I worked on it this week.

I worked on "Storm Born"

I think that was it for the novels.

My goals for next week are: More writing on each. To start redoing chapter 2 of Bright Lights. Still want to have it ready to send out in two months. But I still could use someone to help with the nitpicks.
