Welcome to this week's Novel Support Group (NSG). Anyone can join. If you're new, tell us a bit about who you are and what project you are working on. Feel free to update the NSG Work in Progress thread with your current projects. Although we can report on any number of things, here is a list of suggestions (suggestions welcomed).

  • What were your goals last week and did you accomplish them?
  • Describe what you worked on.
  • Set goals for next week.
  • Did you learn something during this week?

Here is a list of things that you can do each week as we work on our novels (suggestions welcomed).

  • Writing on a novel
  • Characterization
  • World Building
  • Relevant research

Last Week's Goals

I got around 3,000 new words written this week. I was hoping for more but I can't complain. This week I tried something new. Tuesday and Thursday I went to a local bookstore with my laptop and wrote for as long as I could (or the battery drained). It was difficult and tiring, but I got a decent amount of new stuff written.

My goals for next week:

  • Write scenes

I want to continue doing the bookstore writing trips twice a week and see how this goes. I still need to find that best time to write. Late at night and early morning did not work well for me for too long.

What did I learn this week?

Well, I'm still testing this new writing time so I will see if this is my best time or not.

Last Week's Goals:

On the Shelf:
THE SHAMAN'S CURSE
THE IGNORED PROPHECY
BLOOD WILL TELL

DREAMER'S ROSE: Let it rest.
Easy one.

MAGE STORM: Send three more queries out.
Two.

SEVEN STARS: Make it to chapter twenty.
Nope. Real life got in the way. But I am on chapter eighteen.

OTHER:
Update my blog twice a week.

Next Week's Goals:

On the Shelf:
THE SHAMAN'S CURSE
THE IGNORED PROPHECY
BLOOD WILL TELL

BLOOD WILL TELL is getting four readers this month. Then we'll see.
I'm jotting down ideas of how the other two might be changed.

DREAMER'S ROSE:
Continue to let it rest.

MAGE STORM:
Send one more query out. That'll bring the active queries up to a dozen. After that, I want to just send out more as responsed come back.

SEVEN STARS:
Keep up the momentum. I'm on chapter 18. I'd like to get to chapter 25.

OTHER:
Update my blog twice a week.

I have to say Meredith, I checked out your blog, and while I've never read any of your work somehow the titles made me imagine a different person then when I looked at your blog. Nothing in specific, just somehow taking care of your mother doesn't conjure in my mind anything like the phrase "Blood will tell" or "Mage Storm." I (my alter ego, Jesse Clark) left a comment on your post about discovery writing.

For myself and goals...phew. Um, I need to downsize my goals:

New Arbor Day: Didn't make my daily goal on any day for editing, but got a lot of good feedback from some WCE guys. I think I'm ready to blot out my opening scene and start with what I thought was a less engaging scene, but most think otherwise. Pretty much finished a 5- page sysnopsis though I'm having trouble pairing it down closer to 1k.

Evangeline: Hardly touched it this week, but the little I did helped me better understand some of the main characters. Did some sketch work as well. I find it I don't draw out some ideas, I end up re-inventing them later in the story.

Query letters: Waiting on the synopsis from NAD.

Well, that's one of the main points of fantasy, isn't it? To go somewhere else.

Thanks for checking out the blog.
