Just got the good news this morning.

The editors recently asked me to make a few adjustments to the story. It's the first time I've ever had that request made of me by an editorial staff, so that's yet another new writer's experience I can joyfully add to a lengthening line of things I've learned this year. Plus...I think their suggestions made the story a bit better.

I'll announce the publication date as soon as I find out.

Hm, I'm not sure how I would react to a proposal like that. I do want to be published but changing my story according to what others want... Not an easy choice.

Congratulations in either case, Crank. [Smile]

Congrats! It's not unusual for EDF to ask for a rewrite. For the most part, I've found their suggestions helpful in making the story better.

Agreed. Once I read their comments with an open mind, I came up with a variation based on those ideas that very much made the story better.

From the EDF table of contents:

Dec 19 Steve Husk Alternate Ending

I've had two stories published on the condition that I make some changes. This may sound negative, but it's not. At least, IMO, not the way they write it.

"Your story "Title" was very close to an acceptance, but there were some slight problems, so we'd like to invite you to take another crack at it."

So, you reserve the option to say no. If you do, it's a reject, that's all.

The feedback is amazing. Sometimes, five different people read a story and make comments.

Each time, I've found my story to improve with the editorial.

Besides, if you work on a novel with an editor, they're going to ask for changes.

I really enjoyed the story. It's unfortunate that your publication date comes less than a week after the Conn. shooting, but there's no helping for that.

I dug it, and gave you a fiver.
