This is sale number three for me. All to the same magazine, but who's complaining!

A hearty thank you to all of the Hatrackers who critiqued this. I couldn't have done it without you--even the advice I disagreed with

Yay!

Isn't this the third story you've sold them?

Not that it matters, I'm just curious.

Whatever the tally....congratulations!

Thanks! Yep, this is my third sale to them. Of course, they've rejected more than that, but who's counting those? [Doing a happy dance] I've got a sale! [/Doing a happy dance]

:P Yes, sometimes we forgot to consider what the author wants to acheive and insist on how we would do it instead. But we mean well.

Nevertheless, even disagreeable advice serves as a marker for a possible trouble spot. Moreover, whatever you disagreed with was obviously the right decision, since you're story has been accepted! Good job, Mary! Way to stick to your guns!

I just recieved the following email from The First Line.

quote:
Hi, Mary –

We’d like to use your story Rampion for an upcoming edition of TFL on Tape. I don’t know if you have the ability to read and record the story yourself, but if you do, we’d like you to give it a shot. ... What do you think?

Let's see...Besides performing for a living, I work with an award-winning audio theater company. I'm married to an audio engineer. Yeah. Yeah, I think I can record that.

Pretty nifty, eh? And they're paying me, too. Two checks for one story. That's something to write home about.

That is too cool. I had a non-fiction piece with the option to read it on the air, but I didn't get any extra money.

that is so cool.

I liked that story a lot even in the early draft I read!

WOOT Mary! You've just had one of my dreams come true! That is, to record my own work for audio. Yeehaa! I am ecstatically happy on your behalf.

Oh, and I am married to a sound engineer too, by the way. Small world.

That is just so neat. I guess I don't have to tell you to have fun with it.

Posted by MaryRobinette (Member # 1680) on :

Thanks! I told them the hard part would be to not turn it into a multi-voice reading with sound effects and they told me to go for it.

That sounds nice. Congrats, Mary!
