This is my entry for "The First Line", so the first sentence is set in stone. 1200 words. Any comments are welcome, as are readers. This is due on November 1st.

---

The inside was dark. Allison had considered using milk chocolate instead, but thought the rich, almost bitter taste of a dark chocolate center would blend better with the almond flavor of cyanide. She might wish Jonas dead, but it was his birthday and she could not bring herself to be cruel.

Even today, as she iced the cupcake in its festive paper wrapper, she was not sure she would give him the one laced with cyanide. She had wanted to make a cake, but could not figure out how to limit the poison to a single piece, so--cupcakes. Rich cupcakes, with a dark chocolate filling that had melted in the oven to make a decadent gooey center.

Allison had to admit that Jonas had not meant to ruin her life but he had done so as completely as if he had planned it.

What is with you and cyanide? I gotta say, there are a lot of things that will work better as an oral poison. And tasting better with dark chocolate? Have you ever tasted cyanide? Eh, not that I'm suggesting that you should, or that I ever have.

Still, I'm up for reading this. Poisoned chocolate...that'll be the day

Actually the first murder was arsine gas. I've only considered cyanide in the past, and I should probably have chosen digitalis for this but... I like the almonds that go with cyanide.

Oh, and The First Line is a magazine that publishes four times a year. In each issue every story starts with the same first line.
