My second attempt at writing flash fiction, inspired by the Pink Floyd song of the same name. Goal is 1,000 words.
The mating-song of the great space whales, carried on the solar winds, mixed sweetly with the steady rhythms suspending The Melody on the edges of a swirling nebula. Ethios, called Captain by the other explorers and wanderers that inhabited the ship, sat on the main deck and watched the tremendous creatures weave their slow patterns of love across the shimmering gases of the nebula. A muted cry of pain pulled him away from the glorious scene. Lelia, who was perhaps the most gifted Listener he had ever known, and certainly the most beautiful woman, slumped at her station with a hand to her head. He crossed the deck and put his hands on her shoulders. “What’s wrong?”

I like it. The first sentence is a bit long and wordy. The rest flowed very nicely and I'm impressed at how much world building you were able to do without it seeming confusing or overly packed. I'd read but I have too much on my plate as it is.
