My final stats for the year 2008:

# of NEW words produced = 41,400
# of NEW short pieces produced and mailed = 7
# of REJECTIONS received = 17
# of RE-SUBMISSIONS sent out = 20
Race Score, low = 4
Race Score, high = 13
Race Score, year ending = 10

Clearly, my "busiest" writing year in a long time, with a significant amount of new material and a lot of 'traffic' generated at the top SFWA markets; in terms of rejections.

NOTE: the activity above is pretty much from the end of August onward, since prior to August I hadn't generated a single new word of material, and was re-circulating a handful of older manuscripts.

Next year, I hope to best these figures by several orders of magnitude.

Here are mine. Tracking began the last week of June, when I decided to learn about or practice fiction writing every day.

# of NEW words produced = 125,000
# of NEW short pieces produced and mailed = 3
# of REJECTIONS received = 5
# of RE-SUBMISSIONS sent out = 2
Race Score, low = 0
Race Score, high = 2
Race Score, year ending = 0

Note: About 90% of the new words produced were for novels. Of the seven novels, more than 40% were for one.

Next year, I plan on completing two novels and at least twice as many short stories.

I have not done my real writing, but on my story ideas, I have
370 total ideas
564 total pages (single spaced)
376,701 total words

I am five ideas ahead for the year, which is not bad considering what I went through.
If a novel is 250 pages double spaced, I have written four novels.

This is all fantastic, except it is pure drivel. It sure is fun to write.

I don't have a running total, but I worked on three stories, each one running in the ten- to twenty thousand word range. There's a lotta back-and-forth between drafts of this and revisions of that, so the actual word count is probably somewhere around fifty thousand.

However...for the first year since I gave up Internet Fan Fiction, I haven't been able to finish anything enough to be willing to send it out to market. 2008 was a washout as far as submissions were concerned. I hope to rectify this by spring 2009, though...

I don't generally do shorts any more. I spent the year marketing my first published novel and finishing a second novel. This year, I will start shopping that second novel around.

I don't keep it in a handy-referenced spreadsheet (hmm...new resolution to make perhaps?) but this year I wrote at least 60-70k new material, sold one story, published a non-fiction lead article (no cash from either yet - maybe not ever, but that's OK), and entered WOTF most quarters (snafus, unclear whether I entered at least one quarter...)

And rstegman - I hope you never give up your story ideas concept. I find it really inspiring, and think the time and words you put into it are really amazing. Keep it up. It feels like "real" writing to me.

This year I worked almost exclusively on short stories and novellas, a new leaf for me. I finished 5 stories this year and started 2 more, totaling about 60,000 words. That's not including pages and pages of prewriting and an abortive attempt at rewriting an old novel. I received 6 rejections this autumn and one acceptance. I hope the latter number goes way up in 2009!

In 2008 I

- started five new stories
- revised five stories
- started submitting, with two stories

They were all shorts of 1k to 3k words. I'm starting 2009 with about six stories in active work -- one will be my first novella -- and a further two or three on back-burners.

Which is a lot more than last year.

In 2008 I:

Finished 8 stories (shockingly bad considering my target)

Received 77 Rejections

Received 15 Acceptances

Was Published 7 Times

That was my first year of (supposedly) concentrating on writing.

Target for next year: Write more!! Although here we are the first of January and my 1k a day target looks pretty ominous when I don't get to the computer until 1030 pm

I sent out 101 submissions.
I received 90 rejections.
I received 14 acceptances (2 of which were pro rate sales).
I had 15 stories published.
I completed 10 new stories, and failed to complete 6 others which are still in the works.

Productive, mostly because of my writing group. But, not so productive on the sending out to market. That is something i need to change

I started the year with half a novel finished, started writing short stories in June.
