The voting has opened on the thirteen line challenge. So far we have only a handful of votes. Even if you didn't enter your vote would be appreciated.

Come on Hatrackers. Let's hear your opinions. The more votes the more justified the winner will feel.

There is a chance we shall make ye walk the plank if you don't vote, but entered.

I would prefer not to walk the plank, but I think it is very difficult to be objective in a competition you entered. Not that I would vote for myself, just that if someone did something similar, or even something you thought of and rejected, you might not see it for what it really is (especially if that person has more votes than you...) Plus making up a comment about your own work so no one realises it is yours... yikes. Not my cup of tea.

I'm sure your feeling is common, but workshopping and editing yourself are a great skills to develop. And I see you did vote; thanks for participating.

i dont quite understand the 13 line thing, i dont even understand what counts as a line.

also i am unafraid of having my work stolen, if some one wants it i would give it to them free of charge. (less i have to worry about)

Whenever I posted my stuff, 13 lines was a bit too little. 15, maybe?

MartinV if you want the reason it is explained in Please Read Here First.

I've only done it a few times that I recall (and been edited down once), but I figured if it fits in the reply box without going over, it'll come out thirteen lines. Am I right, Kathleen?

That's what I keep reading but every time I submit one that fits exactly in the box, it gets chopped some. I can't figure out why.

Well, we have established that if you're using Mozilla Firefox as your browser, the reply box allows one more line of text than the reply box I see because I'm using MSIE 7 as my browser.

If you are using something else (Firefox and Internet Explorer aren't the only choices, right?), then it might be different as well.

All I can promise is that I use the exact same browser on the exact same computer to look at everyone's 13 lines, so everyone gets treated the same way.

I can report the following:

Opera (PC or Mac): the box is 13 lines
Firefox (Mac): the box is 14 lines
Omiweb (Mac only): the box is 15 lines
Safari (PC or Mac): default is 15 lines, but the box is resizeable, so that doesn't mean much.

That should just about cover the gamut of browsers out there. I apparently use too many. That being said, give Opera a try some time - it's awesome.

If you've got another browser you'd like inspected, just let me know. I'll see what I can do. No linux, though.
