...post 9 / 11, when wordsmithing was easier for me and I authored many emotional organic pop at random, I found it sweet. Now, with the surge, it is what it is. You can shove it under the bus, but I feel the need to give back. "Blank" is the new "blank."

What does that mean? Nothing, really, but it has several words and phrases from the Lake Superior State University list of banned words and phrases for 2008. See:

http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2007Dec31/0,4670,BannedWordsList,00.html

There's an attached article, but you can find that for yourselves.

Huh? This seems like the most random list of words. What a weird article, too, with no explanation or anything. More of a press release. Or did I miss something?

At this point in time I thought that a University authoring a list of banned words was obviously appalling, arguably dysfunctional, positively surreal and frankly extreme.

That said, I found the history of their list here

http://www.lssu.edu/banished/

and the complete list here

http://www.lssu.edu/banished/complete_list.php

(Could not find the article attached to the Fox report.)

Much of the rationale is amusing.

My favourites include

Quarts watch
Input
Ink pen
Interface
Vertical access device
Skull flattening
Soft Wheel Infrastructure System
and "Verbing Of Innocent Nouns " (1999)

Thanks for the amusement,
Pat

Mostly, I'd agree with their list. Reading the rationale is pretty amusing though. I like this one from 2003:

quote:
PEEL-AND-EAT SHRIMP -- “Do they think that, if the name did not contain instructions, we would peel-and-throw-on-floor?” Miguel McCormick, Orlando, Florida.
