There was an article in discover a few months ago on this topic. A Japanese professor made a garment that looked like a pancho and worked like a less effective version of the Predator invisibility.
It's not going to happen tomorrow, but who knows - maybe in a few decades?

I remember this article. I thought it mildly ironic that with the invisi-whatever on you wouldn't be able to see anything.
