All this talk about bootcamp has stirred up the old jealous feelings in me again, so I thought I'd ask if anybody here has heard / done any online writers workshops?
Living in Japan means that I'll NEVER get to do any of the great workshops that are mentioned here in the US, so I was curious if anybody has ever done an online course / workshop that was worth the time and money?
Thanks!

I'm in the same vote for being an outside-of-the-US member here. I'm Aussie ("G'Day, mate!" ) and there are some possible groups like that here, but very rarely they are done, if they happen at all.

I've been in a number of online "workshop" groups. Some just died off. Some start out all gung-ho and then dwindle. I haven't found any where any teaching goes on. They seem to be nothing more than critique groups of varying abilities, the greater number being some version of the blind leading the blind.
GENIE, the first one I joined was huge and had a separate place for sf and fantasy and even a private forum for SFWA members. But it vanished years ago. I forget why.

To me, the second best thing to an OSC class is the book Characters and Viewpoint. But there's nothing like the class. Eventually it sank in!

I read C&V and thought that it was a decent book, but all too short IMHO.
Guess I'm outta luck in terms of workshops and/or classes.

Rcorporon, Leigh and anyone else, who might be interested,
You are not entirely out in the cold. I’ve never taken one, but Writer's Digest has some online workshops at:
Writing Basics Fiction Writing Nonfiction Writing Poetry Writing Technical Writing Writing for Children Advanced Writing Workshops Life Stories Writing Genre Writing Marketing Your Writing Scrapbook Journaling Business Writing And much much more (according to their website)
By the way Rcorporon, what are you doing in Japan? Myself, I’m working as an English teacher in South Korea.

I teach English in a senior high school. I've been here for 19 months, and love it.
Don't ever plan on going back to Canada (where I get to be unemployed and miserable again! )

Here are two link to places I have taken multiple classes. I have found some are excellent and other not so great. It depends on the teacher and if any other students actively get involved. I believe coffehouse also has a writer's workshop, but I don't know anything about it. I also believe Coffeehouse as a quote from me about selling my story after taking their historic fiction class.
