I believe it has been used in the past, but those were specifically scheduled events for which people wanted to participate "realtime".

Oh, bummer. Of course, in a way, I can understand. It's hard to really put a thought out there, complete and polished, with all the right words in all the right spots, when you have a little slot window the size of a cigarette to write in. Plus the fact that everyone seems to get distracted rather easy as it is. They don't need help from a scrolling text window. (Grin)

Now the winking and nudging is making me nervous...(for some odd reason the line making it's way through my head is "Oh, only spoken for! You had me scared.").
I know that I actually did participate in a chat room event at some point in the past, but I can't remember whether it was just a rehearsal for a later event (which I probably missed) or whether it was an event in itself. It was a long time ago, though.
