I'm going to preface this by saying that I only know what's been posted on facebook. That said, it's been over a week of posts and it certainly seems to be true.
CalvinMaker (Noah) died last week.
I didn't really know him at all. On Hatrack, he stuck out in my mind because he was a fellow DC native and seemed like he was actively going out there and doing what he loved in life - music.
In real life, my overriding memory is of him pulling over to the side of Wisconsin Ave on his scooter because he had seen me sitting at the bus stop wearing my EnderCon tshirt. I was too shy to accept his offer of a ride but it was a lot of fun to run into a fellow jatraquero in the wild.
I don't entirely know why, but learning of his death hit me harder than I would have anticipated. I just wanted to make sure that he was remembered here in addition to the other facets of his life.

I'm so sorry to hear this news.
I didn't interact with him much here, but I met him a couple times - he was actually one of the first jatraqueros I met.

I'm very sorry to see one of our own dead. I am no sure how well I knew CalvinMaker, I feel like I may have met him once, but I am not sure.
How terrible that he was carrying such a heavy burden.

Thank you for posting this, Miro. I had no idea. I am shocked and, like you, hit harder than expected by this news.
I have a handful of memories of Noah, of EnderCon and a birthday party, hatrack picnics in DC. I remember noticing him, asking questions of Orson Scott Card and Janice Ian, and thinking he was remarkably intense. Janice Ian was talking about the tools you needed to perform on stage, how you needed talent and you needed that intensity, that drive. I remember Noah asking her if hard work and drive could make up the difference, if you didn't happen to be born with talent. Janice kind of shook her head sadly and said no, you still had to have talent - but you didn't need as much as one might think. I was always so impressed with him, as the years went on, that he was really doing what he dreamed of.
Thank you, hatrack community, for the opportunity to meet this remarkable young man, and for the place to mourn his passing among friends.
