I seem to vaguely recall that Bush Sr. maintained his security prerogatives after he left office, and still kept up to date on National Security concerns; I believe its logical for a President to maintain clearances upon leaving office, but have any maintained themselves in the loop?

All presidents are allowed to get intelligence briefs and updates for life if they so choose. I know Clinton avails himself of that privilege, and I think Carter did as well. But some of them just want to get out when it's over and have not.

One of the topics brought forward in Hal Lindens "Give Em @#$@# Harry" one man show on Harry Truman is the need to find a place for ex-presidents in the statecraft of the country. So this question goes at least that far back.
