Anyone else here a fan of Lindsey Stirling? I figured since a lot of posters here are at least nominally Mormon, she might have some fans here. A coworker introduced me to her last week.
Basically, she's a "hip hop violinist", and a pretty talented one at that. (She's also ridiculously good looking, which doesn't hurt )
I recommend watching Crystallize and Shadows to get a taste of her style. (Shadows has far better dancing)

I have, but only recently. I found out about her while listening to Pandora. I love her music and the passion she has in her performances. She will be in Seattle, just 30 minutes from me, in November and I am considering going to her concert.
Turns out she was on America's Got Talent a couple years ago or so, but was cut when she reached the final 48.

Her Phantom of the Opera Medley is a another good demonstration of her skill, even though the music video is waaaayyy over the top...

That is the most fascinatiing deviation of a classical instrument I have ever seen (in the Phantom video.) I don't know if it existed prior to her but it would be fair to call it the Sterling Violin.
A friend just showed me Crystallize the other day, I'm hooked. Is she mormon? or is there some other relation?

She is a Mormon. I really like her song Transcendence.
I don't love that particular music video though.

The first music video of her's I saw, she was wearing a knee length skirt with leggings and a layered top. It's like a frikkin uniform or something....

She had me at the Skyrim Theme and the Zelda Medley.

If you're into modern solo string players, you've got to check out Zoe Keating. And for not-so-modern but still smoking, AnnbjorgLien.

Emilie Autumn is pretty good too (not quite in the same vein, but she plays violin). And both of them are coming to Utah in the coming months on tours.

She can play, no doubt. But I have to turn the video off it's soooooooooooo bad!

Enjoyed both! I could listen to "Khoom Loy" all day! Uplifting!

She often performs alongside Peter Hollens, a vocalist and sound engineer who mixes their own recordings together to create some pretty amazing stuff. They recent released a cover of the Game of Thrones theme on YouTube. Peter's solo work is pretty great, too. It's nice to see a friend from college pop up online in a good way for his remarkable talent.

I'll have to second that, which video? All of her music videos are pretty cheesy (except for Shadows, which is actually quite brilliant) but I wouldn't call any of them *bad* necessarily.

Hmmm... I'm not really into dubstep, but I will agree that she is ridiculously good looking. Kudos to her for taking an instrument like the violin and doing her own thing with it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sf6LD2B_kDQ <another dubstep. I really like the way she blends the themes together, say whatever you will about her videos/dancing, she puts a LOT of effort into it.
