They love Starcraft. Like, they really love Starcraft.
To put this in perspective, the Korean Defense Minister said that dealing with the North Korean aggression was not like a game of Starcraft. His speech did not go over well and he was forced to resign shortly thereafter. You don't speak ill of Starcraft in Korea.
(I am, of course, being facetious that this was the reason he was forced to resign.)
That's about the extent of South Korea knowledge I have. Oh and they have kimchi.

I love kimchee. Course, I'm Korean so it's not so surprising.

I am knowledge able. I am happy to help the knowledge disabled. Would you like some crayons?
Posted by Samprimary (Member # 8561) on :
Most of my south korean policy knowledge stems from my fascination with the DPRK as pretty much the most horridly godawful dystopia imaginable and a cautionary tale I want to drill into the heads of impressionable college-age marxist dopes everywhere, so it's a pretty skewed knowledgebase.

My sister is teaching English there right now, but she probably doesn't know anything about policy issues.

Turns out smart phones are finnicky things to type on.
And in related news I found 2 books, but it was 8:30pm so no one was there to check out the books and the machines were OUT OF ORDER.
God damnit, くそ!!
Basically I need to write a policy paper on South Korea about its Petroleum policy, does it have a plan if oil production suddenly dropped, etc, is it self sufficient does it have an energy policy etc.
Second page is the environment, does it have a multilateral history of managing pollution controls and does it do significant fishing and does pollution have effects on their stocks etc.

Tut tut, language.
I have to say, I don't know what the answer is, but I suspect it's a similar answer to Japan, which is that they are heavily reliant on imports, but are pushing their heavy industries to be as energy efficient as possible to reduce demand.
When you're done, I'd be interested in seeing your findings.

Yeah, Blayne. It's "dammit," not "damnit."

I didn't think to translate that. Sneaky.

I just assumed Samp was making a pun because it was in another language. It actually didn't occur to me that he was criticizing Blayne for swearing in another language.

What, no one's going to say, "Do your own homework"? I thought that was a Hatrack tradition.
Posted by Dan_Frank (Member # 8488) on :
I sort of figured it goes without saying, plus if we said it Blayne would probably get offended.
Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :
He isn't asking people to do it, just to help him find references. Big difference.

Part of homework is doing your own googling.

Yeah, Blayne. It's "dammit," not "damnit."
Sometimes it's "dam it", but only if there's a river involved.

I live in SK, and the only way I could answer your questions would be to google them. Would you like me to google your questions?

-Go to the Library -Read a book -???? -Profit

You do know I already said what the problem there was right?
Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :
That you waited until the last minute and the library was closing?

The machines were out of order.
I don't see the problem or the reason behind the hostility here. I asked if anyone knows anything, could help point me in the right direction. Because every additional bit of information can be considered helpful.
Some of the responses have been quite idiotic and/or hostile.
I, also, quite obviously for anyone familiar with university have access to the online library, but it is difficult to track down the specifics I am searching for.
Posted by Dan_Frank (Member # 8488) on :
Yep, and calling people idiotic is totally not hostile.

This is one of those sharp, unnecessary overreactions that are under your control, Blayne.

But Hatrack is a wonderful knowledge base. It's one of the first places I think of when I have a question about something. I don't think it's an abuse of the "Do your own homework" rule to start off your research here. As long as you don't end it here.

"do your own homework" to a University student by definition is something I would not consider someone with adequate levels of reading comprehension capable of saying.

Yeah, they must be hostile idiots.

Being a university student is not mutually exclusive with being lazy.
In fact, some might say the two go together particularly well.

I agree. However, for some things, the library is still going to be your best bet. Even in our electronic age.

Report is done, anyone interested in reading feel free to email me, I think Lyrawn was interested *checks* yes, so I'll email it directly if an email address is provided. I think, by being a university policy paper its owned by my institution so I am unsure if I can post it yet, I'll give it a week.
blayne dot bradley at gmail dot com.
On a related note, since I have rarely ever been lazy regarding finding sources or doing my own university work, I do consider it as having been fairly rude and borderline hostile to rebuff an honest request for supplemental information with "do your own homework".

I'd be interested in reading it. My email is in my profile if you'd be so kind.

Yup, I saw, it should be there several hours ago, gasp, Korean time travel technology!
