For school I swear!

For my History of the Balance of Power class no one is participating in the game I was assigned to, there's "players" for countries from my classmates (it is an online class) but no one is making moves, participating, or communicating.

Also, I am allegedly in control of both Germany and France, although I can only send orders to Germany, it SAYS I'm also in control of france.

So no one is there, as such I've been free to invade Russia unopposed.

Problem: I have to write a report on the game regarding how it fits/what I learned about the balance of power from these games.

Which is impossible as there's no one to balance me!!!!

*sigh*

I'm emailing the teacher about the problem asking if I can write it about my EU3 experience instead which has usually around 20 players I constantly interact with in a metagame superior in professionalism, sportsmanship and intensity to whatever random polisci students can manage ad hoc in an game of diplomacy.

First reply from the teacher is that he wouldn't be able to understand the references I'ld make since he never played EU3, but Fu--dgesicles... I'm trying to suggest a compromise that would arguably make for a more interesting paper c'mon!

Maybe I'll ask when hes in his office so I can show him the game.

There are probably lots of PBP Diplomacy games out there that you can read over. If your own game stinks, maybe the teacher would let you write about what you learned from reading games other people have played?

Or maybe read a bunch of the material on this site (and others): http://www.diplom.org/~diparch/resources/strategy/alliance.htm . There may be some stuff you could write about there.

If the professor isn't game, I suppose you'll just have to write a crappy paper about how you didn't learn anything.

Or maybe spin it as an anti-isolationism paper. Since none of the other world powers acted, one power hungry nation ran wild?

That's what I was about to suggest.

Success! As long as I don't make references to the game mechanics of EU3 and just write about the players I'm good.

So Blayne, since you completely ignored the suggestions provided, was there actually a point to this thread, or was it just to keep us informed on what you're doing in school?

Their suggestions would have been useful in the case of my compromise being rejected. Since it was accepted, and requires a great deal less research it renders their suggestions unnessasary in the end, but it could have been needed.
