Coldplay's new album comes out this Monday. They've been streaming, previewing, and performing quite a few of the songs on it for the past several months.

What are your thoughts? Thumbs up or thumbs down? Delicious or rancid? Worth a listen or a waste of time? [Big Grin]

Just downloaded it … would love to talk when I've given it a good listen. So far, the opening tracks are sounding like good ol' Coldplay but also a little like Arcade Fire + the Cure.

OK, here's my first impression: a little simplistic sometimes but still blows my socks off. It's like all the things I loved about the 80s never died, they just evolved. Beautiful. I really like "Us Against the World" and "Major Minor."

Coldplay are not completely my thing - they have had about three songs I like. But listening to it, this is going to be perfect background music for my NANOWRIMO novel this year (which will almost certainly be a slightly sarcastic epic romance). I'm really enjoying it. This and the new stuff from Florence+TheMachine will be a good mix.
