Valve makes a great deal of money from people buying in game items, so I guess it didn't make sense anymore to deter potential players (who could become addicted to the game and might spend $100s on hats and such) with an initial fee.

Someone needs to make a Charlie Chaplin mask and just play as a spy in every game.

I'm actually pretty pleased by this. I'm hoping that DOTA 2 is free to play. If they go with a F2P model with microtransactions I think they will be able to do a lot better than otherwise.

I am interested in seeing how it will do against the two established brands, Heroes of Newarth and League of Legends.

It only really needs to compete against LoL. HoN is dying on the vine and will be pretty much wholly supplanted by DOTA 2.

I played the original (TeamFort) back in the day...like...shoot, 14 years ago...so I'm looking forward to playing 2...got it fired up, but too busy to give it the time it deserves.

I bought the Orange Box back in December and have only seven hours logged in on Team Fortress 2. I know it deserves more, but so little time, so many games...

Anyone ever play that mod game, where one team is a bunch of objects where you just try and hid in the environment, and the other team is full of pyros that has a limited time to kill everyone on the other team?

That was boss.

True. The massive HoN outage a couple weeks ago didn't help either. I think LoL did a good thing by getting involved in the esports scene quickly. The games they streamed from Dreamhack (In HD!) were awesome. Not only did I not get anything done that weekend, but I learned quite a bit from watching the pro players.
