I didn't know at the beginning of the year that I would be going to college, so I didn't apply for financial aid early enough I think.

Congratulations. On the FinAid front fill out your FAFSA anyway, and talk to the financial aid people. You've likely missed deadlines for some of the better stuff, but you can still get loans and other forms of assistance.

Congrats, man.

I think if he's eligible for any grants, he should still get them if he fills out the FAFSA.

That place looks really cool.

I would depends. A lot of grants have either deadlines or limited funds that go on a first come first served basis. Loans are always there though, if you qualify.

Congrats!

If he qualifies for Pell, yes. If they are from the state, the school, or most other sources, the deadlines may have passed.

But definitely fill out the FAFSA and the school's form right away, and then contact the school's financial aid office. http://www.shimer.edu/admissions/financialaid.cfm

Congrats! Be sure to take full advantage of the Hatrack procrastination study method. Served me well throughout my years at school.

So it looks like I'll only get $13,000. Which is cool, but this is one expensive school! D:

Is that all grants, or partly loans?

All grants, I'll have to pay the rest in loans.

ETA: and the small amount of money I've saved.

That's a pretty solid chunk of money for grants. "Only," he says. Sheesh. Kids these days.

What Lyr said. That's a very generous grant package.

Is work-study an option?

Edit: Also, for a private school, those charges are on the low end. But there's no question that attending a private school costs more than attending a state school. Your (parents') tax dollars at work!
