I was pretty excited about a job interview I just went on about 8 days ago. I had a really good phone interview with a local company, and they called me back right away to schedule an actual face to face interview. I went in and had what I thought was an excellent interview. Three people sat around asking me questions, and they seemed really positive.

I had not included my current employers phone number, and in the interview I explained why.....as a PRN nurse, a lot of agencies stop offering you jobs once they know that you are looking for full time work elsewhere. This place, SIMED, said they understood.

I got a call from the SIMED HR person about a week ago, and they wanted to know if they could contact the agency since they were considering making me an offer. I said it was fine, but I asked if I could talk to Karey, my agency Director of Operations first so she wouldn't be surprised, and the HR person said it was fine. She said just to call her back later that day when she could contact the agency. I offered to give her the number right then and there, but she insisted I just call her back later.

She gave me her number, and and I wrote it down. I then read it back to her, and she said it was correct.

I called the agency, and Karey didn't get back to me right away. When she did, I let her know what was going on, and she was fine with it.
I then called the HR number back, and got a auto-generated voicemail, and left the number for my agency. I called the next day, got the same voicemail, and left the agency on-call cell number, as Karey said she would be out of the office that day.

On Thursday I went in and spoke to a person who interviewed me. I had not liked the auto-generated message, but I had not wanted to seem too eager so I didn't call back up a third time in as many days.

Turns out it wasn't the correct number, even though I had read it back to her when she gave it to me. So I then called the correct number, right away, explained on the correct voicemail what had happened and apologized, and left the phone numbers.

I called today, and even though they had wanted to make me an offer, they filled the position already. Because I had not gotten back to them, they thought.

They had since verified I had left the messages after the fact, but by now it doesn't do me any good. And now....I have 0 shifts this week so far from my agency. Rent is due next week, and I have no work so far.

I might have written the number down wrong, I suppose, but I did read it back to her. I didn't want to be over eager so I let my concerns about the automated message slip by, and it cost me a $40,000 doctor's office job 2 blocks from my house.

Between this and the crap about Penney's using the automated personnel line and not giving references, I feel like I keep getting the shaft. I never thought that only have 3 jobs in the past 14 years would be a bad thing, but it has been so far.

It wasn't suppose to be like this. I called right back. I left messages. I had a great interview, and they called me back 3 times.

I am starting to feel like I was better off before I was a nurse. At least then I didn't have any expectations.

Thanks. I thought it went really well, and it did....they wouldn't have called back if it hadn't.

I have to try and get some hours this week. I wanted Halloween off to spend with Jenni, but it looks like I might have to work it now.

I'm really sorry Kwea. That is the lamest thing I've heard in a long time.

Don't despair, get back on your feet.

Sympathies. It sounds like you really were doing everything right, which just makes it all the more frustrating sometimes.

I just got a positive letter from them saying the same thing. Mailed out BEFORE I had the conversation with HR.

I hate when your applicant can actually read a freaking calendar. [Smile]
