I would like to shamelessly talk about myself. Just for a moment.
This past year, I have worked on five different theatrical projects. One opera, three musicals, and a film. (This while being a full time double degree music student.)
The current project is a stage adaptation of the Marx Bros. Duck Soup. I am performing in it, but I also music directed the show and helped adapt it for the stage (even aiding in composing/altering the music and lyrics). I also worked on costumes, but that's irrelevant.
Right now, the show is getting reviewed all over town. Random people keep coming up to me in public places, telling me that my name is constantly in the paper and on the radio. I have found the show reviewed (with my name specifically mentioned) in four different locations, and my name is on the poster twice. I just did a google search for myself and the first four and a half pages were entirely me -- and I kept making sporadic appearances on the pages immediately after that.
I'm not yet 23 years old. I know that it's not really fame, and I live in a small town, but it feels really good, as someone who is entering such an unstable career, to begin to be noticed, however locally it may be. I'm starting to really feel like I've cracked the tough theatre/music shell around here, and have actually made an impact in the theatre and musical communities. It's nice to know that I'm able to work on numerous creative projects even while I'm still completing my undergraduate degree.
I just felt like sharing. Thanks for listening.
Love, ~Raia

Congrats!!!
What part?

did you record it for our viewing?
Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :
I'm playing the secretary, so it's not even a very big part. Though I have a lot of bit moments in it, too. My main contribution was the music.
And, thanks.
Blayne: Yes, it is being recorded. I'm not sure yet where the recording will be available, but it's being documented! Also, the film I was in will, obviously, be on tape somewhere...

No you really can't talk about you. It's against the rules.
Sweetie I am so proud of you and love hearing about your accomplishments. I feel guilty for not making it to one of your performances in a while. Do I get points for going to Maya's?

Congrats! It's so good to hear about what you are doing and you are accomplishing a LOT!

Thanks.
Sarah: Umm. Sort of. Considering it was almost 5 hours long I'll give you the points for that. We still have one more weekend of shows for Duck Soup, though, if you're interested!

I'm leaving town Thursday at 6am. This would have been the better weekend and it was still packed.
What play is SOS doing this fall and does your sis have a cool part?

Congratulations.

They're doing Brigadoon, and supposedly yes, she does.
Thanks.

I've never seen Brigadoon, but go Maya! It seemed like a lot of the strong people (especially guys!) were seniors.

Is there a cool part in Brigadoon?

I knew it. Raia is a Marxist.
(Zeppo to be exact if she's the secretary. Or was he just the secretary in some of their other movies?)

Congrats Raia!

Congrats!

Hehe... I'm the other secretary, the Sylvanian secretary. The one whose husband comes home to find Pinky in the bathtub. I have a bigger part here than I do in the movie. Zeppo does play Groucho's secretary in this one.
Thanks, guys.
