Has anyone seen this? A friend just linked me to it. It was apparently made for $5000. I just briefly skipped through some scenes so far, and I must say, looks pretty damn good for the kind of budget it was made with.
Figured there'd be a good amount of people interested in this here.
Off to watch...it's going to be another late night!

Well, that was amazingly well done. Quite superb actually. And, as a Kiwi, I have to say the Welsh landscape looked a little more Middle Earthy to me...

That's quality production value. Good acting too. It's amazing what can be done on a small budget, especially when so many huge-budget movies are so bad.

That was surprisingly not awful. I was prepared to dislike it, expecting poor production value and bad acting. I'm not saying it was amazing, but for $5000 you couldn't really ask for more. And the acting was good! I was especially impressed by the makeup and the acting from the Orcs. Low expectations + good short film = fun times.
I know they deliberately made it in the style of Peter Jackson's movies, but I would've preferred something entirely original. I was annoyed in the first 8 minutes or so by how many shots seemed to be directly lifted from Jackson's trilogy. After that shaky start, though, it got a lot better.

Everyone else has covered it. It was surprisingly good in every regard. From the acting, to the production quality, to the make up and costumes, etc...
Like Jamio said, I don't think their intent was to make something original, but to pay homage to Tolkien and Jackson by creating something with the look and feel of Jackson's work, taking place in the world of Tolkien. And they did that brilliantly.
I was truly impressed.

I just got around to watching the whole thing. I thought it was wonderful, better than Jackson, myself. I liked the actor who played Aragorn. I liked the way his eyes looked. I think the orcs looked more like they should look. Jackson's were over the top and too twisted away from elvish form, in my opinion.
I do think Gollum was strong enough to get out of that burlap bag while Aragorn was sleeping, though. Maybe Aragorn slept lightly enough that he would immediately have sprung up and caught him if he'd tried. I also wonder how Aragorn fed Gollum in the bag, and how they handled other details. Probably he let him out twice a day to eat, or something.
Was the statue of Elendil shown early in the film at Weathertop? I was confused in parts about where they were at various times. The orc raid seemed to be happening in Fangorn Forest, I guess? Or was it in Mirkwood? I thought the landscapes were absolutely gorgeous and looked very Middle-Earthy.
Gandalf's hairline looked a bit strange, and the makeup throughout was a little too obvious. Otherwise, I think they did an amazingly good job with the effects. I love what passionate moviemakers can do on a shoestring budget.
This has made me hungry for more LotR stuff. What ever happened to that Hobbit movie they were supposed to be making?
