I loved those books when I was younger. I think I may reread them this month as a sort of tribute.
I actually preferred the Elenium, but the Belgariad was great. The rest were just rehashes.
Sad day.

I remember staying up half the night to finish the Belgariad when I was twelve.
Rest in peace, sir.

Like Kwea, I also loved them when I was younger. I think I would like to re-read them myself and maybe share them with my daughter.

He is one of my favorite authors. I am currently in the middle of Polgara - one of my most favorites.

I knew they were kinda cheesy even when I read them, but I still loved them.

"Kinda" cheesy?
They're the iconic example of what I call "empty calorie fantasy".
That said, they're also a fun read. Unlike, say, Eragon which similarly invoked all the by-the-numbers tropes but is painfully dull.

Well, towards the end they were, but really...they introduced a fairly decent magic system, and the first series was fairly novel when it was first released. A lot of series after that copied them, so they became almost an in-joke of sorts, but the first series was pretty decent.
I loved the Elanium though. Sparhawk was awesome!

Oh... these were the first adult fantasy books I ever read, back when I was elevenish. Good memories...
