Today was my graduation ceremony. It was very hot. But, it was nice to finally know I am finished. I didn't want to walk, but my kids really wanted me too. So, for them, I withstood all the pomp and circumstance. Tonight I am going to dinner with my family to further celebrate.
So, I am the proud owner of a cap and gown I will never wear again, a shiny lapel pin courtesy of the alumni association (who really just want money), a tassel I can hang from my rear view mirror if I like, oh, yeah, and a BS degree.

Belle,
If I remember correctly, you were studying to be a teacher. Does your BS come with certification? In what? Do you need to complete a master's degree to keep the certification?
(Reason I'm asking: My teaching certification expires after five years if I don't complete my masters)
Oh, and congratulations!!!!!

Super congrats! It's a weird feeling, isn't it? I image once you start teaching, though, even though pomp will be a happy memory marking all of your hard work and perseverance.

My BS is in secondary education, but I double-majored in secondary ed and English. I have already applied for my certificate and it's pending only the posting of my degree before it can be processed.
I have to re-certify in 5 years, but don't need to complete a master's to do so - just the required number of hours of professional development. I will, however, get my master's before that time.
Now, the really exciting part - finding a job!

That's super! I'm glad you walked . . . even if it was "just" for your kids. I never did, for either BS or MEd and wish I had done at least one of them.

My mum graduated last year, and I have to say it was the proudest moment of my life - so I can guess how your kids feel!
Wonderful. Good for you.

Well, I just got home. I thought we were going to have a dinner with my brother and his family and I walked into a party with multitudes of family, friends, church family members!
My family, even my kids, totally kept this from me for weeks! We had the party at the upstairs room of a local Italian restaurant. There was cake, and people that I love to wish me well. Some of them I haven't seen in months. It was so great...the best way to celebrate.
I love my husband. He planned the whole thing.

Congrats, Belle.
I also walked for my family members -- parents and grandparents -- not for myself. But even though I have since then lost the photo, cap and gown, and even the tassel, I'm glad I did.

Congratulations! I myself did not walk as my parents were on a paradisaical island, and could not be there. But again, I'm so pleased you've surmounted this obstacle.

My hair is a mess! LOL It was so, so, so hot - they lined us up in a gym across the street from where the ceremony was being held. That gym had no air conditioning. I'm looking over these pics going "Man, that was a bad hair day!"
