I have decided to watch 100 movies in 100 days. Why? Well, I need an excuse to get on the exercise bike. These need not be movies I've never seen, but they should be movies I either want to see, or really really liked. I know what you're thinking: Hey, TL, we don't know what movies you've seen. On that point, here's a list of every movie I've ever seen:

I'm pretty open-minded about movies. I have no genre restrictions. I like intelligent writing everywhere it appears; I'm bothered by internal logical inconsistencies in movies. I like movies where the characters seem to have thoughts and feelings. I like longing. I like knowing, through little hints and deft touches, that the people in the movie had lives before the movie began. I like montages (exception: montages set to power ballads). But I also like fun; which I think I define as a sense of playfulness. This can either be dumb-fun (Hot Rod?) or intellectual fun (Being John Malkovich?)
All of these things can lead to surprises. I hate some movies I should like (for example Transformers); and I like some movies I should hate (for example the seemingly trash-bin Wild Things) (which is intellectually playful, in which the characters have thoughts and feelings, in which there are hints of inner lives and pasts which are richer than what we see).
So.... If that makes any sense at all, suggest away.
I'll add Harold and Maude. Not sure about Fight Club. I've seen it so many times, I might be all Clubbed out.

-Stardust (it's so good it bears repeating) -The Lost Room (mini-series and absolutely positively brilliant. We saw it twice and will willingly watch it again.) -Taxi 1, 2, 3 (I think there's a third) - the French versions & originals. Much better than the Queen Latifah one. -Ong-bak (Thai movie with Tony Jaa with wonderful action sequences) -Tom yum goong (another Thai movie with Tony Jaa and wonderful action sequences, including a high speed trishaw chase)

Here's a really weird one that I bet no one else will suggest: Lord Love a Duck. It's a 1966 satire about the teen culture of the time, but there's also a lot more going on. It's very bizarre, and at times disturbing, but I really like it.

Why not 200? There are what I'm doing (although my game plan is 3 to 4 years, not 200 days).
And I'm pretty sure he's building up to a third book. There are a bunch of 'Great Movie' reviews on his website that aren't in the books yet.
Last week was 'Annie Hall' and 'Amarcord', and I've got 'Bridge Over the River Kwai' for tonight (and yes, I'm going through the lists mostly alphabetically. It's the most random way I can think of, in terms of dates and directors).

Mel, I like you more and more. I'm sorry we didn't become friends when we were at the other place. I was wrapped up in my own universe, then. It was a very insular universe. Your comments (though they were several months ago) of encouragement about quitting my job.... Well, I appreciated them greatly. And I did it, by the way. How's your writing coming along?
Mel, it takes me a long time to get back to the point where I feel sharp, after I've stopped for a while. The mind requires practice. I'm just now beginning to feel again as though I'm in command of my fiction. It's taken this long to get the words to behave the way I wanted them to.

Lord Love a Duck is easy; Amazon has it. Alternatively, if you get Turner Classic Movies, I believe that's where my dad saw it sometime in the last year. So it could be on again at some point.
So did you end up moving to Oregon? I'm really glad to hear that you're working on your writing.

That is so very true. I do write most days, but not fiction. I keep a journal of what we do on our farm, and I find that if I write in it at least every other day, then I constantly find new things to write about, but if I don't post for a while I hit writer's block, even if there are plenty of big things that I could use for inspiration.
OK, Troy, you've motivated me. It's time to stop procrastinating and saying that I'll get back to writing fiction someday. I'll never get there if I don't start, so now is the time.
