As a Christmas gift I received the first and second season of NewsRadio, the late 90s sitcom head-lined by a post Kids in the Hall Dave Foley.

Two things are apparent after watching the episodes:

He got to do much funnier stuff on this show than he ever did on SNL. He had the gift for taking gags that would be funny enough and pushing them just far enough that they become gut-busters. But never without stopping the show.

Now I'm motivated to get season 3. Enjoy more of Phil.

I love that show. I have all of it on my pc from way before it was available on dvd, but the quality is so bad I've been thinking of getting the dvds.

The show was still funny after Phil Hartman was gone, but it wasn't the same.

Brinestone and I watched the whole series a year or two ago. I was also pleased to see that it was just as funny as I'd remembered.

On the other hand, I thought it was staggeringly less funny than I remembered it.

I've wanted to watch Newsradio for a long time. Phil Hartman was a really classy guy, I would have loved to see him continue in the comedic world.

Why? [Smile]

Who can say? Things are either funny or they aren't.

I remembered it being hilarious, and I don't think I laughed out loud one time in the whole first two seasons. Maybe my tastes changed.

Don't spend too much.

People can say why they find things funny or unfunny quite easily. [Smile]

What are you basing that on? That's precisely the opposite of my experience.

Well, as we all know, humor is entirely objective and can be defined by your experiences alone.

Ooh, and they've put my favorite episode up in full! The last time I'd checked, they only had a clip collection from it. (That'd be "Super Karate Monkey Death Car," season 4.)

Nearly every time I've watched a program intended to be humorous, my friends and I have shared why we found it funny or unfunny.

It's common "water-cooler" talk at my place of employment, or when I'm just hanging out with friends.

That isn't rare, is it? I mean, nearly every one I know chats about such things.

Newsradio is ADEQUATE.

Jeez, tone down the rhetoric. Next you'll be telling us 30 Rock is "yeoman like" and The Wire is "Sufficient, in as far as it goes."

See, that was funny, but I couldn't tell you why.
