Are you thinking of The Muppet Christmas Carol with Michael Caine as Scrooge and Kermit as Bob Cratchit?

It's A Muppet Family Christmas. That used to be my favorite Christmas movie.

We used to always watch The Christmas Toy. My mother hated it and was always trying to throw it out. My god, I haven't watched that in probably ten years.. This makes me really want to go watch it.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is officially my favorite version of the Dickens classic. Fun music, great narrator, and Michael Caine does a really good Scrooge. Plays it totally straight, you'd never know his costars were a bunch of muppets.

Blayne, I do vaguely remember something with the Kermit/Fozzy/Miss Piggy gang together with Big Bird and Oscar, etc., singing around a Christmas tree. Is that A Muppet Family Christmas?

Yes, Muppet Family Christmas was the name of the movie. The Fraggles also made an appearance in the movie. You can usually find copies on ebay, unfortunately if you're trying to get it on dvd you'll likely pay through the nose for it, because it's been discontinued. Another unfortunate fact is that, due to licensing agreements some of the songs from the original movie were cut from the video release in the US. Supposedly the British version of the video release included those songs, but I don't have a compatible player so I don't know. You can watch the uncut version on YouTube in five sections.

Not only have they cut songs, they've inexplicably cut the payoff to one of the running jokes.

My favorite part in a Muppet Christmas Carol? When Beaker flips off Scrooge. Classic, subtle, and unexpected. Sure, there's a debate on this whether it really was Beaker's middle finger, but the body language and frustration leads me to think that it was intended to be that.

But I also love the movie for the music, Michael Caine, and Gonzo/Rizzo. [Smile]

Oh, it was the middle finger, my brother and I watched it frame by frame to make sure.
