Yes, unbelievable as it may seem, scientists are engaging in "the first-ever monitoring of an endangered species from outer space." Probably from a ragtag fleet of survivors fleeing an ArtificialIntelligence slave revolt.
"Scientists will examine images...to find the circular patches of Earth denuded...as they gather food..." Which explains all of the crop circles people have been finding recently.
