Mutton Chops should come back into style.

Very interesting, Blayne. I also had never heard him speak before.

Similary, a year or so ago, I found a video of Richard Feynman lecturing on Quantum Electrodynamics. I had never before heard him speak either. I was somewhat amused to discover he sounded a little like Kermit the Frog. I giggled every time he said the word "phenomema".

My dad claims he killed Isaac Asimov.

Really. My dad's letter was the last one Asimov ever answered in his mag...and it was a pretty long letter, too...

I'm bummed... there's nothing with Heinlein speaking.

^^ Doesn't hurt to have the proprietor of hatrack on youtube either.

I'll probably have a looksee at the Ender's Game comic.

No, it is extremely sad the circumstances of Isaac Asimov's death, he died I think to a contaminated blood transfusion infecting him with HIV.

Frank Herbert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEWM7zIIF9c

This is neat. I'd never seen footage of Asimov or Herbert before. Somehow I'd never thought of looking them up on youtube.

Asimov's voice is REAAAAALY close to what I imagined it.

I had been completely unaware that this was the case, but a little reasearch confirms it. Thanks, Blayne!

I have audio tapes of Asimov reading his own short stories. Nyah nyah nyah!

Hate away, or just get it too.

Dunno if it's the same audiobook, but I listened to an Asimov-read collection long ago and was pretty disappointed; maybe it was his first try and he just wasn't used to reading aloud to a tape recorder instead of a live audience, but the recording was pretty dull and flat... [Frown]

I'm sorry I never got to see him speak. I love his books.

Probably the same one. [Smile] He's not voice talent.

What, you wanted gifted writer, legendary wit, and entertaining reader all in one? [Wink]

This is awsome. I have read, but never listened to Harold Bloom, one of my favorite literary critics. Not surprisingly he is very arrogant, but that doesn't bother me much. I agree with a lot of what he has said.

Also found something with L. Ron Hubbard who I have always heard about, but never heard. I tried to find an interview about his literature, but I guess Scientology has trumped his literary achievements.

You forgot the scare quotes around the word "achievements".

His books were good, OSC found Mission Earth good as well.

It's a subjective thing of course, but I've read a decent amount of his SF and found it to be pretty bad. I count Battlefield Earth as the worst novel I've ever read.

I found it one of the best. A clean refreshing break from franchises.

I have just watched "Prisoners of Gravity" series, and it blew me away.

Talk about wonderful interviews.

Actually, yeah. I read one of his autobiographies (I, Asimov -- great read), and several of his anecdotes are all about what a great speaker he was and how whenever he read The Ugly Little Boy there'd be lots of crying. So I was pretty disappointed that the audiobook I heard was so tepid. [Frown]
