Very interesting, Blayne. I also had never heard him speak before.
Similary, a year or so ago, I found a video of Richard Feynman lecturing on Quantum Electrodynamics. I had never before heard him speak either. I was somewhat amused to discover he sounded a little like Kermit the Frog. I giggled every time he said the word "phenomema".

No, it is extremely sad the circumstances of Isaac Asimov's death, he died I think to a contaminated blood transfusion infecting him with HIV.

Dunno if it's the same audiobook, but I listened to an Asimov-read collection long ago and was pretty disappointed; maybe it was his first try and he just wasn't used to reading aloud to a tape recorder instead of a live audience, but the recording was pretty dull and flat...
I'm sorry I never got to see him speak. I love his books.

This is awsome. I have read, but never listened to Harold Bloom, one of my favorite literary critics. Not surprisingly he is very arrogant, but that doesn't bother me much. I agree with a lot of what he has said.
Also found something with L. Ron Hubbard who I have always heard about, but never heard. I tried to find an interview about his literature, but I guess Scientology has trumped his literary achievements.

It's a subjective thing of course, but I've read a decent amount of his SF and found it to be pretty bad. I count Battlefield Earth as the worst novel I've ever read.

Actually, yeah. I read one of his autobiographies (I, Asimov -- great read), and several of his anecdotes are all about what a great speaker he was and how whenever he read The Ugly Little Boy there'd be lots of crying. So I was pretty disappointed that the audiobook I heard was so tepid.
