No, not James Cameron's upcoming alien planet eco-fable CGI-fest, which will make over half a billion dollars because it's a James Cameron movie.

The other one. Based on that Nick cartoon.

I like Avatar, but I still haven't seen most of the episodes from the last few seasons.

Wait a minute! NO NO NO!
They do NOT NEED TO MAKE A LIVE ACTION VERSION! [Mad]
That will be ridiculous.
Dang it
Doesn't anyone have any ORIGINAL stuff they can ruin? [Cry] [Wall Bash]

Ready for Book Four: Air?

Avatar, what's that? Haven't seen it in so long... like a distant memory...

[Wink]

[Achilles, I'm not sure what you mean. IIRC, this season is the end of Aang's story, though I guess it would make sense if they continued the pattern and made a "Book 4: Air" -- about someone else.]

The only thing that makes me sad about the possibility of crappy live action Avatar movies is that even if they are crappy, they won't kill the franchise.

Why the assumption that it will suck? I trust Shyamalan to not turn this into a special effects sideshow, like most of these movies seem to be these days. Besides Syn, until now he's done only his own original material, and near as I can tell he's one of the few filmmakers that DOES do only original material, so I forgive him his break from writing his own material to try and adapt something larger to the screen.

I've only seen a few episodes of Avatar from the first season but it looks pretty cool. Movie form could be weird, because he'll have to learn a lot of other skills in a relatively short period of time, but, it could work. Luke Skywalker from from farm boy to Death Star destroying Jedi in three movies convincingly, I don't see why Aang can't be a fully trained Avatar in that time period. I'm curious as to who the actors will be and which effects house will get it, Weta or ILM, or maybe a more minor player like Rhythm and Hues.

While I, like most others here, like and prefer original ideas and movies, I won't dismiss a live action adaptation out of hand, especially when one of my favorite directors is working on it.

He's just going to put some weird twist in it.
Like all the kids turn out to be ghosts or something.
Or maybe Ang is a ghost.
He'll put ghosts somewhere in the movie because that's just what he does, even though the cartoon already has them.
Or he'll add some odd monster.

Meh. I'm not at all worried about that. He was writing his own material there, this is someone else's. Besides, ghosts in how many of his movies? One? Odd monsters in how many? Two, arguably?

Guillermo del Toro is making The Hobbit, and though I've only seen Pan's Labyrinth and the trailer for Hellboy II, I'm not worried that he's going to litter the movie with weird fairy pixie things like I've seen a lot of in his other things.

He's still a good film maker. Worry after you actually hear some details for the movie. In the mean time, there's PLENTY of actual crap out there to take issue with.

See, and I was hoping you meant this.

Personally, I'm more interested in seeing if Nick is ever going to air the rest of Season 3.

I'm withholding judgment on the movie until we see the cast list and early set photos. I just have this feeling that's he either gonna "get it" or completely miss the mark.

What an awesome show Avatar is! I Still haven't seen a single episode of season 3...waiting for it all to finish, so I can watch it at my own pace rather than having to wait between episodes.
