I just got hit with my first one: Try going to xkcd.com. List them all here!

xkcd/QC/qwantz -- it's a time loop!

A little bit ago, Fark.com claimed that it had been hacked by guinea pigs.

Posted by Nighthawk (Member # 4176) on :

I thought I lost my mind...

And is it because of April Fools or is it a bug that *every* news story on Penny Arcade is dated March 3rd? And the current comic is a broken image link...?

Wikipedia.com has a nice one as their FA.

The "did you know"s and "on this day"s look just a tad suspect, too. [Smile]

Posted by King of Men (Member # 6684) on :

Hmm. I take that back. The ledes look suspect but the articles seem legit, and the Apple and Google ones are definitely legit. Interesting!

Posted by ricree101 (Member # 7749) on :

Yeah, it looks like the pictures and news are the only parts that are totally legit. Although the "did you know" articles do seem to be real articles that were chosen to be misleading.

Gotta hand it to them: they nailed those emails.

I haven't seen Google do anything yet...?

Chessbase does good ones every year. [Smile]

Yes, they do. Although they try to post several weird articles, just to make us wonder which one is really April Fool's. There's the "Garry Kasparov – taking up Shogi?" article today also, but I think it's a safe assumption that the "Fischer archives" are today's joke. [Smile]

Discover magazine used to do one every year, don't know if they still do.

OSC should put up an article about the forthcoming release of Ender's Game, the movie.

Nah, on second thought, he shouldn't.

Or better yet, one of Ender's Game, The Movie, The Game.

Woot is doing an all-battery Woot Off. The same battery. Over and over.

But BoCs are being sprinkled here and there, so you gotta keep watching...

An announcement that Alan Dean Foster has been tapped to write the novilization of Ender's Game: The Movie would be good too.

Oh, that's wild! The questionnaire is particularly amusing...

Well, you're distressingly normal and could conceivably adjust to life as a deep space pioneer, though we recommend instead that you leave the Mars missions to the serious whack jobs who scored over 130 and instead finish year 3 of law school, tuck your toddler into bed, design Web 2.0 applications, run for Congress or do whatever other normal, healthy, middle-of-the-road thing you're currently doing with your normal, healthy, middle-of-the-road life. If you're determined to give Virgle a try, though, you can submit your video here.

The Starcraft 2 and World of Warcraft ones are pretty hilarious.

I sent several friends and family members an e-mail claiming I'd found a snake in my kitchen this morning.

I couldn't get it pasted my husband (who works with high school students) but I did manage to get my sister and an old friend.

I got that one when I chose all the obvious answers. Changing to the opposite on everything yielded:

Okay, let's just get this over with quickly, like ripping off a medical adhesive: you did not do well on this test. You are not, by all available evidence, well suited to be a Virgle Pioneer, or any sort space explorer, really, or for that matter, any profession which requires leaving behind your creature comforts, your nice warm bed, your lovely wardrobe, your gourmet meals, your high-end home theater, your friends and family -- oh man, what have we gotten ourselves into here? We're kind of freaking out ourselves, actually. Help! We changed our minds! We don't want to go! [Clicks heels.] There's no place like home! There's no place like home! There's no place like -- [ Long silence. ] Hello. Still there? We're sorry about that unpleasantness with our previous reviewer. We can assure you, you tested just fine and would make a fine Pioneer; all you have to do is submit your video here.

I got one that said I would be the perfect volunteer.

Congratulations -- you are ideally suited to be a Virgle Pioneer; so ideally so, in fact, that one wonders why you aren't already living on a remote South Pacific island, serving as a biosphere test subject, washing dishes at a North Pole research station during the depths of winter or writing a highly intelligent, articulate political blog. At any rate, we want you for one of our upcoming Virgle launches. You'll love it -- the pay is great, the view from the spaceport should be spectacular, and we're told that algae and spirulina actually start to taste good after the hundredth consecutive day. Anyway, if you want to give Virgle a try, you can

This is an April Fool's joke, right?

The Legend of Zelda movie.

Fluegel's 'B-Flat' Starts on a Good Note

quote:
All Things Considered, April 1, 2008 - For most of his 30 years, Simon Fluegel has explored the musical movement known as subminimalism. You probably know of him for the two-note cello concerto he wrote as a conservatory student. It was never performed by a full orchestra, but, in transcription, its simplicity made it a natural for toddlers in Suzuki lessons. Now comes Fluegel's most daring subminimalist composition: "B-Flat." The work is the subject of critical acclaim in Europe, as well as a forthcoming Canadian documentary film.

Holy crap. If it is a joke, it's damned impressive.

I think the April Fools joke is that Uwe Boll isn't involved...

Seems to me someone ought to be using that to pitch a movie.

Posted by JonHecht (Member # 9712) on :

From my google search, it seems to be a low budget independent film that's in the works.

I think it's a joke... IGN isn't a studio, I don't believe. And the Apr 1 release date for trailer and movie is suspicious.

But that was very cool work

Posted by Philosofickle (Member # 10993) on :

Hmm, the legend of Zelda one, although there were alot of obvious CGI moments, looks like it might actually have been interesting.

Posted by C3PO the Dragon Slayer (Member # 10416) on :

Ah, it looked stupid, but impressive. It's obviously a joke, constructed to look real. And they did a wonderful job.

Surfthechannel.com tried to do an April Fools saying that a prerelease screener of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and then a link that just said April Fools!. Unfortunately, they got yelled at and had to shut down the site for a while. Opps!
