I donated blood platelets today. They said I could bring a book if I wanted, but "don't worry, we have an excellent selection of movies."

I arrived at the center, went through the tests and questions, got strapped down for the roughly two hours it would take to collect my platelets.

"So, what movies do you have?"

"Movies?"

"When they called, they said you guys have movies."

"We have television."

So, I watched two episodes of Family Feud (which I liked when I was four, but would've been okay with never watching again) and two episodes of The Incredibly Smarmy Snotball Judge. At least, I think that was the title. It was certainly the most apt description! Every case was some unpleasant looking woman with an unfortunate tendency to say "Oh NO you didn't!" with the least provocation. Invariably they were arguing with a big, doughy-looking guy frowning and rolling his eyes. And Judge Smarmy Snotball would grin as if this giving him the sleaziest sort of jollies.

Requests to see what was on the other channels fell upon deaf ears.

Is there anything actually entertaining on daytime television? They want me to donate again in a couple of months! Or should I just bring a book?

Only if you've got cable. If you've got cable you can watch Law & Order most of the day, and the Food Network, TLC, etc. the rest of it. [Wink]

I'd bring a book. Or possibly a portable dvd player, if you've got it, and a movie you like.

The hospital where I donate has lots of movies but I never have time to watch a whole one. Early on, I watched "Philadelphia". It was a pretty weird movie to watch while donating blood. I finished before it was over and the technicians and I all stayed to watch the end and cry.

Our daytime TV choice is usually the Game Show Network. Yay for The Match Game.

I'm staying at home with the baby these days, and I keep the TV off all day. When my mom comes she likes to watch stuff like Martha Stewart and The View. *shudders

Daytime TV is bad by legislative decree to discourage malingering. [Wink]

Well, "The View" is kinda fun when they all start fighting about something, or when that new panelist they've got says something like that she doesn't know if the world is round or flat. [Evil Laugh]

Seriously, I don't think you're going to find anything much that's good on daytime TV that isn't on cable. Me, I'm partial to "I Love Lucy" reruns. Unfortunately, I've usually got one of the cable news stations on, at least in the morning, so that I can be aware of anything breaking in the financial markets, since my work (I work at home) depends on my keeping up with that.

I love those courtroom shows. It sounds like you were watching Judge David Young.

The food network can be okay, amd Law and Order is somehow comforting if I'm sick (which is the only reason (barring visiting elderly relatives) I'd be watching television during the day).

There is one thing I half keep up with from "Daytime television" but I watch Nuke on YouTube. [Razz]

Lots of SportsCenter. Beyond that, Spike does a two-episode run of "Star Trek: Voyager" daily and SciFi does a marathon of whatever they feel like showing.

Network daytime TV, however, sucks. [Smile]

Heck, I don't even watch television at night. My wife and I stick to movies and series on DVD.

That said, on the occasions we're at her in-laws or a friend's or after Audrey's birth at the hospital I turn into a Food Network junkie. If we had cable I'd probably watch that non-stop (except for the few shows I don't care for)... Heh.
