Dream Theater... I've seen them five times in the last couple of years. Suggestions? Spock's Beard, and Neal Morse (of Spock's Beard) after he went solo. Mike Portnoy plays drums for him. Some of the best progressive music ever made, I think. Start getting into Yes as well, it will blow your mind. Relayer would be my recommendation for best Yes album ever.
If you like very, very heavy, Nile and Job For a Cowboy.

I have an interesting answer for once:
I am listening to all the Billboard hits, in order, from 1950 onwards. I started on Friday and I am presently in 1961, now going at about a year and half per day (since 1958 there's a top hundred, where as the earlier years had 30, 50 and 60).
It's fascinating to listen to the changes in music as they are introduced into the top hits of the year. Until 1955 it's definitely mostly influenced by the 40s, with a strong emphasis on crooners. 1955 begins the change, with songs like Rock Around the Clock (Bill Haley and the Comets), for example. 1956 brings Elvis, and then a slew of Elvis-imitators, peaking (imo) in my so-far favourite year of 1958.
It's like time travel for your ears!

I was listening to my Silver Apples comp all night yesterday after having owned it for, like, two years and never really listening to it.
I am also listening to them... THIS MOMENT, before I are going to purchasing some breakfast.
That's why I'm loathe (am I doing that right?) to get rid of CDs I don't like, often enough it "takes a few years" for me to get into something if my heart does latch onto it immeadiatly.

I'm listening to Elton John's "Leather Jackets" album. Many people, including Elton himself, think it's his worst album, but it's not bad in the absolute sense; it just sounds very 1980's (it came out in 1986).

I used to be like this. Now, if it doesn't grab me immediately, I tend to just toss it. I sift through too much music.
Recommendation? Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, as always. Pinback is good, really mellow, but good. Minus the Bear.

You shelled out the money for the ROTK Complete Recordings? How are they? I just bought the Two Towers CR when they were on sale a couple months ago and I love them. ROTK has some of the music I wanted the most, but I'm not paying what they want for it right now. Still, I want it so!
Currently I've got some of Dave Matthews' newer live music playing, along with a three cd set of random opera that I snagged at Costco. I'm looking to get some Gilbert and Sullivan and maybe the soundtrack to Atonement, and I really want a good recording of the Pearl Fishers, but I don't know who yet. I just think "Je Crois Entendre Encore" is an incredible piece of music.
Other than that, I have Dvorak in my car CD player, and the soundtrack to BSG (mostly season 2) playing on my MP3 player at work.

Yes, 3! I've seen them live. Their lead singer is a fairly standard classical guitarist, but it seems all the more complicated when he plays a lot of his riffs while singing.

Okay, I recommended you start with Relayer, but that was on the off chance that you might actually get into them, and then the less likely chance that you will get what they are doing from the get-go. If you really plan on diving in to Yes, I think I would suggest getting a "best-of" first, and then commit yourself to collecting their entire library afterwards (you might get by without Big Generator and Talk, and Tales of Topographic Oceans is pretty divisive among Yes fans; but don't let anyone tell you that Tormato is not worth it; it is).
Seriously, Yes will change your existence.
What kind of Dream Theater fan are you? Anna Lee or As I Am? Strange Deja Vu or Six O'Clock?

Been listening to The Black Crowes lately. Their albums "The Southern Gospel and Harmony" and "Shake Your Money Maker," are just solid albums if you want to listen to bluesy rock. As for tracks, I suggest trying, "Black Moon Creeping" "Twice as Hard" "She Talks to Angels" and best of all, "Thorn In My Pride."
