I've been watching this the past few days and the choirs are great and the music is good. A little over the top at times but still good. I like how they are trying to win money for their local charities, but I'm a little tired of all the sappy stories throughout the show. I know they are trying to get people to think about charity, but it's a little much.

Your thoughts.

I had to look it up. Clash of the Choirs, yes? But tonight it was going opposite some performances of really great choirs on PBS. I watched part of that instead.

That show actually looked pretty cool, but since the Writer's Strike started the only TV I watch is Red Wings' games.

I love choirs. Maybe I'll catch the reruns.

I only watched the first night.

The choirs are terrible choirs. The singers, individually, are fairly good singers.

The choir supports (as far as I could tell) the selected soloists; they are glorified backup. There is no range of style between the choirs.

Yuck.

I don't know how you can have clashes involving choirs. By their nature all the groups should combine into one super choir.

I think by 'choir' here they mean the pop music kind of choir- a chorus of singers. It would probably be more interesting if they were classical choirs.

The choir that did "Flight of the Bumblebee" functioned as a unit (and was plenty cool). But it's true that almost all the rest was merely a largish group of backup singers for whoever happened to be soloing at that point.

I will say that I liked the fact that, although there was competition in the formula, the point was to support the charities (they gave money to all the charities, not just the winner), and the host kept talking about cooperation between the groups. Plus the fact that they brought back Michael Bolton's group to sing, even when they had been eliminated from the competition.

Overall, I liked the show far more than I had expected to. The one thing that bothered me the most was that they spent a lot of time interviewing the participants, who didn't have anything innovative to say. It would have been better to devote more time to music, or to do more in-depth articles about the hometowns and charities.
