Just had my final exam in Unix networking and man am I good with scripts [Smile]

Q1: Make a script called sc1 that creates a file of all the users in the system putting them 5 at a time on a line, call the file "Users" and check to make sure that it doesn't already exist.

Q2: There are 2 files, File1 and File2, merge them together into a 3rd file "Zipper".

File1:

Have
Happy
Season

File2:

a
Joyous

Zipper:

Have
a
Joyous
Happy
Season

Whats funny is that after the test to use the phone I was let into the server room, and upon entering it and talking on the phone for 5 minutes the linux server crashed.

My teacher joked that my essence was s overpowering it crashed the server [Smile]

Those were seriously your questions? Were there more questions?

Because....Well, mainly because neither of those have anything to do with Unix networking. Shell scripts are fine and all, but they're not to be confused with system administration.

there's a theory part of the test that I nolonger remember. the above was the practical.

Your networking class, for its practical, had two questions about shell scripting?

we worked alot with Unix systems setting up a domain name hosting service, using tripwire, setting up qmail/vpopmail, ftp for individual user accounts etc, we use alot of shell scripting to automate the process.

So, how does this make you a Linux master?

Anyway, congratulations.

Do they give you a colored belt?

Well, hum. Me, I generally refrain from bragging until I've got the grade.

You've got to be joking about the second question.

Incidentally:

man am I good with scripts
No manual entry for am
No manual entry for I
No manual entry for good
No manual entry for with
No manual entry for scripts

Pretty boring, yeah. 'make love' is much better.

That was the final exam?? That seems like it could be a very simple, two week course, at the most.

I can do the second one albeit sloppily [Smile] Is file 1 an array or something?

BTW, I think the Terry Pratchett rule about 5 exclamation marks applies to this thread. 3 points and a hug to whoever gets it first.

Mazel Tov on your mastery. It's OK, I'm hoping, if I still call you "Blayne"?

Posted by Blayne Bradley (Member # 8565) on :

Huh?

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

As opposed to, say, "Master".
