Help me! Back in the mid-80s, the Disney channel used to show this very dark, very bizarre adaptation of The Nutcracker. It was done using stop motion puppets that looked -very- similar to the Rankin Bass-type characters, but was not an RB production. Christopher Lee was the voice of Drosselmeyer.

The plot had tidbits of the original E.T.A. Hoffman story and rather disco-pop remixes of the Tchaikovsky ballet music.

Clara came off as a delusional girl on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

And yet, I recall there was a happy ending of sorts. There was also a peppy, surreal pop ballad played over the credits called "The Dance of the Dolls Has Begun!" Or something.

Has anyone else seen this?

Where can I find a copy?
