Welcome to Hatrack, NeoVulcan.

There were actually two threads posted on that comic on the day it went up, and have been several other threads about xkcd. It's a great comic! But when you're posting something like that from a couple of months ago, I highly recommend using the search function instead of just giving a quick browse of the forum. Chances are it's been posted already, and when it's old just looking at the recent threads isn't going to help.

So, why don't you tell us a little about yourself? What brings you to Hatrack?

Not to say we don't enjoy new posts on old subjects here though. I prefer the way we have it now as compared to many other forums, where posting about an old subject will get you practically cussed out for not using the search button.

I do enjoy the authors often simple drawings, I've often had difficulty trying to imagine what the battleroom would look like without it being probably hazardous to fly around in.

I would be extremely surprised if it was spam. xkcd is a hugely popular comic, and the author currently makes his living writing it full-time. He hardly needs to go around spamming forums to get more readers. And frankly, if it was him, the OP probably would have been, you know, funny.

The 1337 arc makes more sense if you read the whole series, since the katana wielding Stalman and the be-goggled cape-laden cape Cory Doctorow were referencd earlier. Here and here, respectively.

It's kind of funny that following these comics Stalman was sent a katana by fans and then later attacked by ninjas while giving a lecture. Additionally, Doctorow was presented with a red cape, goggles, and a balloon when he won the 2007 EFF Pioneer Award.

I met the guy (Randall Munroe) at Harvard last month. He was with other webcomics, and made a point of how much more work they do than he does. He really is living the dream that very few webcomics ever reach.

He was hilarious in person, too.
