Has anyone here used America's Best? What did you think?

Ages ago I bought a membership or whatever it's called, but it was a LONG time ago--almost 20 years. I was pleased with the Orem, Utah branch where I joined, but then when I moved to DC it was not a good experience. Interminable waits for service, rude employees, not very attentive doctors, and so forth. But that's DC for you, so I don't know if that was symptomatic of the company in general or just of that office.

I really don't remember anything about their selection of frames, either, or whether it turns out to actually be economical or not.

Thoughts? Good deal, or stay far, far away?

You get what you pay for, basically. Their selection is decent. They're competitively priced. But my last pair, from a private practice, was much better in quality.

I've used them. I wasn't especially impressed, but as rolla said, you get what you pay for. I think I got a pair of glasses, a pair of soft contacts, and the exam for $100. They fit, they were the right prescription, and the frames looked decent on me. That was what was most important to me.

Thanks to both of you. I wear progressive lenses, so glasses are expensive for me and I'm trying to soften the blow a bit!

There's always Wal-Mart. [Big Grin]

Don't laugh, that's where I got my last two eye exams. I liked the doctor there, but he's moved on. I bought my last pair of glasses at BJs.

I'm so very tempted to go to Pearle for my exam, which would not be cheap at all, and pay to have them use the machine where they can do the exam without using the dilation drops. I hate having my pupils dilated with a passion. It takes me about 4 hours to recover--I just feel crappy and only want to close my eyes and sleep.

Yeah I guess getting your exam there isn't necessarily bad. The frames I got there turned my face green, though.

So go to Pearle for the exam and ask them to give you a written prescription. Then take that to Walmart or BJ's or Americas. I think legally they cannot refuse you.
