We usually seem to end up with a Halloween costume idea/feedback/sharing thread, so since I'd like some input, I thought I'd start one...
Emma chose our costumes this year; she's going to be Superman (got the costume on sale from TRU at the mid-summer clearance for $7.50 including shipping; it's the $35 deluxe one), Jeff and I are going to be Jonathan and Martha Kent (easy-- jeans, flannel shirts, boots, etc.) and Bridey is supposed to be Lois Lane.
Here's where I'd like input-- I have some ideas for the Lois Lane costume, but I'd like your ideas on baby girl clothes that would work for it. She's a size 18 months, I'm willing to spend a few dollars (either at the thrift store or clearance at a store or online) because they'll be things she will wear again, but I'd like to know what kind of outfits you think of when you think of Lois Lane (that would be available and appropriate for a little one size 18 months.)

I am putting pressure on my wife to let me shave Toshi's head. He is 3, half Japanese, and looks more and more like Ang from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
I so want to shave his head, paint a giant blue arrow on it, get an Ang costume, go teak-or-treating, and take lots of pictures.
So far I am loosing the battle.

About Lois...hmm...I always imagined her in a mini-skirt and business blouse. Maybe you could get a wig that looks like the Lane from the original Superman Movie?

No mini-skirts here, but a knee-length-ish skirt and businessy-type blouse was what I was thinking of, mostly. (What kind of skirt do you think? A-line? Straight? Pleats? What about colors?) Maybe with some cute textured tights and the most grown-up-ish non-high-heeled shoes I can find in her size for under $15 (she needs new church shoes anyway.)
There's no way she'll wear a wig, I'm gonna have to deal with her hair (which actually is not far from Lois Lane in the original tv show/early comics...) The best I can hope for is she'll actually let me style it with gel and barette(s). So it's more about a costume that says "Lois" as much as possible. My husband and I are still undecided, but we found a dragon costume for our son at a second-hand store that is great. Last year, we didn't dress up. First year in my life. I don't want a repeat of that, but I'm lacking inspiration.
re: Lois Lane -- well, one of the first things I usually think of is a cigarette. Not sure that's appropriate for an 18-month-old . Lois Lane is always more characterized by her high-strung attitude than her clothes. For clothing, I'd just say a straight, business-length skirt (NOT a mini-skirt) and a blouse. Color isn't all that relevant.

Honestly I've never thought of Lois as a smoker.
If it helps with wardrobe choices, the reason Emma knows about Superman is my Lois and Clark obcession. So when she thinks of Lois, she thinks of Teri Hatcher's Lois.

If I ever get around to it, Bin will be a pink fairy. I have the pattern and the fabric, just need some tulle and the time. Oh, and some wings- I think it would be easier to buy them then make them.

I used to watch Lois and Clark -- you're right...that Lois didn't smoke. Most of them do, though. The one in the old movies definitely did, as does the one in the new Smallville series. In the most recent movie, Lois wore pencil skirts. I seem to recall them being high-waisted. When I think of a pleated skirt, I think of ones that go with belted blazers - that late 40's look.
Aerin is going as a ladybug. It's the same costume as last year, in her current size. I figure, why mess with perfection. It's also her Purim costume.

I am an 18 year old male, is that a serious question? Besides, it isn't just the fabric but the gloves, boots, and sword. I wish that I could go as Doctor Who but even the cheap version is 250 dollars. I found a high quality version made by an actual suit retailer in London that is nearly 400 for the suit and 800 for the coat.
Edit: It's by the place that actually made the suit for the show....
Edit2: And I got the price wrong for the coat, it is 999. Gee, those Time Lords sure spend a lot of money on clothes.

I just found out I'm going to a halloween party for the first time in my adult life. It's a college party, we will likely be inebrieated. I have no clue what to dress as. I'm 5'0 have shoulder length brown hair, and quite a chest.

As for breyerchic04 I don't know. I figure just don't go with anything strapless if you've got "quite a chest" and are going to be inebriated.
Generally what I do is select the most random costume I can think of, directly after Halloween is over, and wear that the next year. Perhaps you could help me?
Of course most of the people I know were they to dress as goth, pirates, things of the sort would dress exactly as they usually do with slightly darker makeup, I falling into this cateogry.
I was thinking something along the lines of an undead cheerleader in our school's colors, red and white.
Or perhaps a football player, although the shoulder pads would be quite uncomfortable considering the person that I would have to borrow them from is over six foot and two hundred pounds.
I'm 5'2" and weigh barely one-twenty, and am not gifted to have "quite a chest," so any ideas would be appreciated.

Cayla wanted to be a sock monkey, but we've also tossed around the idea of going as Firefly characters after I saw a Hawaiian shirt costume at Wal-Mart.
We can't/won't do a mask, so the face would have to be face paint. I had found sock monkey costume instructions online but I'm not sure where.

My daughter is going to be Dora the Explorer. She already has the orange shorts, pink shirt, and pink & white shoes. I'm probably going to knit this wig, only in black yarn. If I can find a small, purple backpack for a decent price, I'll get that and paint the face on it, but otherwise she has a Dora backpack that will work. She has a stuffed monkey that will wear snow boots to be Dora's friend Boots.
I don't know that I'll be dressing up as anything. As far as I know, I'll just be sitting on the porch handing out candy, and if last year was normal, the trick-or-treating will be done within an hour. There doesn't seem to be much point in putting together a costume under those circumstances.

I was going to say the same thing. My dad taught himself to sew when he was 17 and went off to college. He rectified that with my brother by encouraging us both to sew by the time we were 9. Everyone should sew.

Oh fine, I can stitch torn pants together, but nothing more, and not well. My step-dad does it way better than me or my mother; he has very steady hands. I, on the other hand, have horrible fine-motor skills therefore when I try to sew it is ridiculously visible.
Edit: Though now that I think about it I *should* be very good at sewing. My great-grandfather was a tailor. My grandfather expanded the business into multiple stores, and by the time my father inherited it and it went bankrupt due to over-expansion it was one of the biggest tuxedo retailers in Canada. So my costume turned out pretty awesome for my choir concert and field trip. I thought I'd show it to you.
Here's a tall shot though I hate this one because it looks like I'm pregnant.
The purple velvet dress is left over from my high school production of the Lion in Winter (I've worn it for Halloween before.) The cape was $12.99 at walgreens. The white collar was made out of that wacky craft foam. the necklace was $5 at the Halloween store. The crown was $3 at Target, as was the blue eye shadow. I had a little Snow White doll that I carried around on stage and pretended to strangle/hang on the microphone cord. It was fun...and now I don't think I'll actually wear the costume for Halloween.

I went to a party Friday night where the theme was that you had to dress as someone or something dead. The male host was Marilyn Monroe, the female host was a redshirt from Star Trek, one guy was God in a white robe and big gray beard, and there were lots of generic zombie costumes, but I think my favorite was the guy dressed as a doornail I went as Tonks from Harry Potter, because I already had clothes very much like what she wore in the movie, so all I needed was a wand and a dye job. I'm glad I work at an office where it's okay to have muddy-streaky purple hair for a week while it's washing out.

Jeff needed a last-minute costume on Friday, I dressed him as static cling (suggested on last year's thread, I believe) and he won the office contest!
We got sick and ended up skipping the ward party on Saturday. But we'll be trick-or-treating Wed., so I really need to finish Bridey's costume (I ended up with a white long-sleeved blouse and a pink, knee-length plaid skirt, trendy but professional-ish, for her to wear. I couldn't find anything blazer-ish, but I think that will be good enough. All I have to do is make her "press badge" that says "Lois Lane, reporter, Daily Planet, Metropolis", for her to wear on a cord around her neck.)

Lois wears white blouses with a tight grey tweed skirt to just below the knee, along with hose and some sensible flats. She is a smoker, but in this modern age conceals it and doesn't use anything as ostentatious as a cigarette case; she pounds both ends of a pack of Virginia Slims furtively, angrily and with some repressed self-loathing when she needs a drag. She has glasses but wears contacts, and typically keeps her hair up.

My roommate dressed up this weekend as Franzia, the boxed wine. He's a structural engineer so it came off pretty awesome. He even had a spigot attached that poured real Franzia.
Because of the accident I had in September where I lost my front tooth, I went as a pregnant redneck. Not nearly as awesome as a box of Franzia, but it worked.

If there are any Reno 911 fans out there, I went this year as Terry. Wore his work outfit from Tacos, Tacos, Taocs, Tacos. Fourtunately there are currently no pictures to post. I looked ridiculous, From the small hat on top of my head right down to the roller skates on my feet. I've been told the best part of the evening was watching me as I rolled around the party from person to person.
I was accompanied by A spandex attired Laser Tag pro (mullet, elbow and knee pads, 1980's LT vest and cod piece), Pat from SNL, Ernie from sesame Street, Tom Cruz from Risky Business, And a bar Fly. Fun times
