I'm sure some of you have heard of this band. The one with the female singer who's really short and very petite. She can sing. But more surprisingly she can scream.
Most people look at this band, listen to this band, and walk away both happy and extremely surprised.

They are pretty good. They are friends of Dir en grey as they toured with them in FVT. They also had Fair to Midland open for them.

Hearing a girl scream like that is frickin awesome.
Unfortunately, her voice sounds too much like Avril Levigne for me to enjoy the rest of the song.

She does a good job at the alternative rock/ post grunge music...The back up band could be playing for STP or a dozen other bands. It all sounds the same to me now. As I've gotten older I find this “pissed at the world” point of view getting old. I am starting to like more melodic music with some meaning. So I have had to branch off into some Folk music and even some pop bands. It is cool to see a woman succeeding in a predominately male field. But if anyone has any more aggrevise music with some substance I would love to give it a listen.

They're definitely a Christian band. The album itself has...substance. The lyrics are pretty good overall. And I still think she's an amazing vocalist.
I saw them live. And it was just awesome to see her unleash that screech in real life. It was unreal.

I'll have to give them another listen and focus on the lyrics.
Just out of curiosity, how does a young woman screaming apply to Christianity? I can think of a few, but having only heard the one song I can't really say.
As a matter of personal preference I am more attracted to singer song writer musicians today. When I was in school I preferred someone who could scream. No one has passed Eddie Vedder in my opinion.

Kyo I think passes Eddie Vedder The man sings with more raw feeling than anyone, and he can also croon as well as scream and wail. Also there is Darroh of Fair to Midland to consider...

Just read some of the lyrics and check out their wikipedia. The singer went through a real rough spot in her life. Eventually, she found herself reborn in Christ. A lot of the lyrics are very personal and about her expierences in Christ.
Also, you could check out the lyrics to their song "Cassie." That one is pretty overtly Christian.

Steve, Just reading the lyrics "do you believe in God" reads more like a political commentary than a Christian theme to me. Of course if she sings "do you believe in God?" it could be Christian.

That's actually one of the only things that keeps me listening to them. I can't understand him whether he's singing in English or Japanese, but his voice can push a lot of emotion.
As for Flyleaf, not bad, I guess. There's no novelty for me in hearing a girl scream, but they've some decent songs, and I kinda like her voice.

Now that I actually own the CD, I can comment once more on the Christian aspect of Flyleaf's music.
If you read to the very end of the lyrics for "So I Thought," you'll notice the name Jesus.
Also, I have now seen them live twice, and I can better vouch for the amazing-ness of their live performance. The best quality video I could find was not from a show I was at, but it's still a really good example.

And they recently released some acoustic material. This better showcases her singing ability.
I've only heard "All around me" before, although I really enjoyed what I heard.

I finally listened to Dir En Grey after hearing Syn rave about them near constantly for years.
The only song of theirs that I've listened to and liked is Kodou, but I found the rest of it to be pretty mediocre.
I think if the songwriting were several steps better and if the lead singer would avoid the lower end of his range (as well as the screams), the group would be much, much better.

I listened to Ryoujoku No Ame, Repetition of Hatred, Clever Sleazoid, Saku, The Final, Beautiful Dirt, Kodou and The Pledge.
It occurs to me that I'd probably also be more able to find value in the music if I could understand more of the lyrics (my Japanese is pitifully bad).

They aren't amazing. However, they aren't terrible either. They get the job done. And they're really energetic live. If they're good live, even crappy bands can be gods for an hour or so. Fortunately, Flyleaf isn't crappy.

Those are all delicious songs. It could be that. I listen to music in other languages all the time. Hindi, Gaelic, Chinese and of course Japanese. The emotion really comes out despite the language barrier (though some songs are in English, it doesn't sound Englishy to American ears) Then there is ha mabuta wo oroshita yasashiki utsu to consider, Dead tree, Red Em, Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi (it has nifty guitars, it's less aggressive)
