I think it would be a great idea if Hatrack had a radio show online, like you can connect to it via realplayer or something and using skype participate in it, and on a weekly schedual people can register in advance their own 30 min-1hour long shows, could be music, news, commentary, talk shows, group discussions...

Whatchthink?

I'm fine with text.

As am I. Text fits my schedule with greater adaptability. I would never be able to commit to a weekly radio show.

I'd be afraid of Dobie broadcasts. And where would we find a trio of morning show people? You know, the type of show where there are two guys with stupid nicknames and a girl without one?

Or we could have podcasts or something like that.

I don't know reader, there is a group of similar format in Sacramento, CA that's OK. They don't have goofy names, and they're quite funny.

I agree with TomD. Sometimes I like the idea of text because you can skim through some things, and the media of the conference here is permanent, unlike the memory of a radio show. Participation from everybody is much more practical in this setting.

Radio, Shmadio. What we need is Hatrack: The Broadway Musical!

Hatrack On Ice!

And then "The Reader" would have to change to "The Listener", and that would just be inconvenient.

I don't know what I'd prefer -- OSC singing in a musical, or OSC ice-skating.

Both!

Yeah. Why choose?

I'm so silly sometimes!

OK, I just played a game. I randomly chose a page from the bottom, then closed my eyes and pointed to a thread. It was this one. What fun! And Hatrack SHOULD have a radio show!

Some sort of Hatrack podcast thing could be interesting. There is certainly a diversity of expertise, personality, information and interest on this board to cover all manner of subjects.

But I don't think enough people would be able to commit to anything on a regular basis. What I think might be easier would be if there was some sort of Hatrack online magazine. People could submit articles and what not and they could be organized into a readable searchable format, and then people could comment on the articles. Either that or a podcast magazine, and have multiple people submit multiple podcasts that are organized the same way, but, I'm with the others that say I prefer text. It's easier to start and stop and I can read faster than I can listen.

A weekly Hatrack magazine/newspaper would be interesting though.

One of the marvelous things about fora is that people participate as much or as little as their whim/RL responsibilities/other stuff allows. Why change that?

I think the antagonist of a Hatrack musical would be a fearsome member of a mythical anthropomorphic race from Scandinavia. It could come in the form of a giant-like creature or maybe some type of a goblin. Of course beyond that this particular creature would have to be literally aflame at all times.

Then question is whether the people of Hatrack try and change it into something human (and not engulfed in flames)or drive it into exile.

Aren't those called "threads?" [Wink]

Yeah [Smile]

I guess a lot of the long rants you see people posting really are Op-Eds or essays of sorts. All the elements of what would be such a magazine are already in the various threads of Hatrack, it's just a matter of organizing.

Meh, I have no problem with the current format. I mean, maybe if we had an actual audience that didn't regularly read Hatrack, it'd make sense, but anything that'd be in a podcast or magazine is stuff we already read on the threads anyway.

Yeah. And if you want to hear people's voices there's the a capella singing and reading aloud groups (which we ought to revive!)

I agree with the podcast/magazine concept actually. It might be interesting to publish a website as a group, in which members of Hatrack were the "staff" or whatever. The articles or features could stem from the topics on the board for instance, or there could be semi-regular series features involving smaller groups of contributors on specific topic areas.

I'd love to contribute something.

One way to go about it would be to create project ideas and then farm out the work to whoever is interested in the topic, so as to add some volume to the topics and some depth and different opinions. It could be presented like a "thread" but where the "posts" are more fully realized parts of the dialog, with more extended and in depth writing or talking.
