How?

It automatically starts when I turn the PC on, and slows everything down for freaking forever. *grrrr*

I can not find where to change that setting.

*double grrrr*

Help!

Start-->Run-->type "msconfig" and hit enter-->Click the Startup tab-->uncheck the one for scan disk.

Okay, I get to the start up list, but there's no scandisk selection -- would it be known under another name?

What operating system are you using Shan?
Does scandisk come up on every bootup?
I use Windows 98 (I know, I know, past time to upgrade) and scandisk used to pop up at bootup whenever the computer had crashed or I had cut power before logging off Windows.

I used an OS tweaking program to stop it. It's a registry entry I think.

Yep -- every bootup. Odd -- it never used to.

MS Windows XP, HE v.2002, service pack 2 upgrade.

Maybe it's the upgrade? Which, now that I think about it, the timing of the two may have been concurrent . . . I'll have to ponder some more.

I also run McAfee -- would that affect it?
